    Wexford Youth Women 2020 Season

Friendly result from yesterday: Wexford Youths Women 1, DLR Waves 0. Usual pre-season friendly with both teams giving everyone a run and played in fairly blustery conditions. Best for Wexford were Lauren Kelly, Ellen Molloy, Aoibheann Clancy and the "usual suspects" at the back of Nicola, Lolly and Rossi with Edel Kennedy imposing well when she moved into midfield in the second half. Massive task for Tom Elmes and his team this year will be to plan the side without Rianna Jarrett, easily the best player I've seen since the beginning of the WNL.

Blessing Kingsley has confirmed that she has signed for the University of Southern Mississippi. Has always said that she wanted to move to the USA so it's great news for her and very best of luck to Blessing.

Ex Wexford Youths player, Claire O'Riordan, now with Duisburg, are now 2-0 up at half-time against Leverkusen in important game for Duisburg in their battle to avoid the second relegation spot in the Bundesliga as against Amber Barrett's Koln. Gap will be five points in favour of Duisburg if they can get the three points today. Claire not having much to do at centre-half for Duisburg with a good sign for Claire that the Leverkusen forwards don't seem to be prepared to take her on with ball at their feet at all. She was, however, lucky not to avoid at least a yellow when she crunched into a Leverkusen forward showing her studs just before the blow. No celebration of the goals at all by the players with substitutes wearing masks. Duisburg manager has his mask hanging round his neck so the Covid19 rules are probably not being enforced to any great extent.

Late SC Sand goal has put Diane Caldwell's Sand a goal ahead against Claire O'Riordan's Duisburg at half-time. Both Irish players playing well in my opinion. For anyone interested, I'm getting a good stream here which hopefully will work in the second half.

Good point for Duisburg yesterday against Potsdam to take them out of the second relegation spot in Germany and drop Amber Barrett's Koln to second-last on goal difference with massive battle now likely between the two to avoid going down. Claire O'Riordan didn't play yesterday presumably due a recent red card.

Duisburg missed a penalty in the second half.

Claire O'Riordan not starting for Duisburg in their vital final match of the season against bottom club, Jena. Duisburg need to match or better Koln's result today to stay up. Possibly still suspended.

Duisburg stay up with Claire coming on as a sub. Koln go down on goal difference.
