Bit of a mad day in Dalyer today, I think the game didn't go ahead on TV as they only would have had the main gantry on the Connaught and only 1 camera in use, the secondary gantry on the tramway was unusable due to the conditions, the ballboys down there will be off school for a fortnight with the dose they'll have got standing in that for 2 hours. Baffled why the new dugouts weren't bolted into the ground either. Major hassle also with tickets as it seems despite Future Ticketing handling Bohs ticket sales for years there was a major issue with Future Ticketing overselling tickets and season tickets not getting sent out at all, first most would have heard about it was an email this morning from the club unless they saw the club twitter reply to someone saying to DM to get a soft copy ticket emailed over.

Game itself was as you'd think given the conditions, scrappy with not many clear cut chances, most of the few there were went to Bohs, a draw would have been a fair result but Rovers snuck it at the death. Ref was atrocious, 2 Bohs players booked in the first 5 mins and he didn't take the conditions into account at all, blew up and carded far too often and not a bad tackle in the game to be fair to both teams, just a few slightly late slides given the conditions. Twardek was excellent for Bohs, man of the match for me. Rovers had most of the ball but very little end product. Rovers fans making a show of themselves again as usual pegging flares at Talbot, even when their own team were on the attack and about to swing a cross into the box in one instance of several. A gang of them outside the shopping centre after the game trying to scrap with all and sundry by all accounts too. Quinn showing up at games now as well, saw him in with the FAI heads along with Paschal Donohue slumming it with the proletariat.

Player welfare? It was a set of jerseys not rotten old sackcloths they used! For a club without a budget and are poorly organised it took a 93rd minute goal against 10 men to dispatch them in front of a sellout crowd during some of the most atrocious weather for a game to have been played at all. I'd get yer sniping if Rovers had lost or had been held to 0-0 even.

Sniping ?? Another season of irrational commentary begins ( in fairness you’re usually way more logical )

There was an unwritten rule up until recently that lads would keep their fights away from the public. *****s seem to have changed now.

Shouldn't be described as fans pure and utter scum, not a club colour in sight. Surely a few of them can be identified through the video and banned for life by both clubs

Clubs have been too soft for too long because they can't afford to turn down the gate receipts but this can't be allowed continue to creep back in.

Was in Oriel Park on Friday and a bunch of kids no more than 14 having punch ups with each other in the shed during the game and then as soon as FT whistle sounded they sprinted for the exit to try and continue it outisde. Again, clubs need to start identifying those involved in this carry on and ban them.

Bohs goalie was wasting time from the tip off yesterday, and they all seemed intent on kicking as many Rovers players as possible. Long got what he deserved in the end.
False hope is worse than no hope. Ask Sligo.

I can see why Long employed such tactics and it wouldnt be so much timewasting, until the last 20mins or so, than trying to keep it scrappy. There are few better teams than Rovers when they build up a head of steam and start playing and the tend to have to play their way in to a game rather straight out of the traps.

Conversely in previous seasons they looked more vulnerable in an attritional game. All teams thrive on confidence of course but it seemed more so with Rovers among title challengers of recent, the heads went down quickly especially in the Dublin Derby, so break up their rhythm at every opportunity, get under the skin doing so and its a bit of a leveller. It's something to get used to as teams seeing Rovers improvement will go in to games to spoil rather than play and hence play to Rovers strengths. Last season teams probably thought that it was possible to nick points v Rovers, this season its about containment. Its frustrating to have teams set up to park the bus, spoil, break game momentum, be physical etc. its a literal hard grind at the expense of game quality, its a backhand compliment also though.

Teams have been doing that for years against Rovers and its been our problem not being able to break them down.

Nice to see the Bohs faithful showing their true colours once again yesterday, supporting terrorism, being sectarian (you couldn't get much more ironic given the clubs origins), turning sober 15 year old kids with tickets away and splitting them up too for that added bit of danger, with one idiot throwing in monkey gestures to top it all off.

You can't beat a 93rd minute derby winner though especially after getting soaked in facilities not fit for cattle for 2 hours. KOH

Great to see greener scoring, he is a confidence player, a poachers goal to start the season, as someone said above maybe we don't need a hat stand after all.
Olluwa, Armstrong and Williams are 3 excellent young strikers as back up but they are all 17 and 18. Touch wood greene doesn't seem to get a lot of injuries.

Hard to judge how good, bad,or indifferent Boez are, as the conditions were appalling. No Corcoran means no finisher and the longer he's out they may struggle , but they finished 3rd for a reason last year and kept a fair few of the squad.
As for the Glorious Rovers- last year they would have either drawn or lost that game so insha'Allah they have found the knack of winning by any means necessary, i.e the dundalk way

The leagues twitter are currently posting some pretty interesting stats from the games if anyones interested in that sort of stuff, includes players average positions which is quite interesting to see.

I thought Derry were very good on Friday. If they had been a bit more positive they could well have gotten a share of the spoils. Its a quandry for opposition as as above with Rovers, going at DFC suits us but the ability to get late goals is almost a trademark. The edge in fitness probably helped. If Derry are FT then S&C should have that sorted and will be better next preseason - the trend is to play catchup and get there. This close season for Dundalk has been as close to spot on as is likely to happen with fitness and games. Early points on the board we havent always been banking but with Shels and Cork up before the first game v Rovers id be disappointed with less than 9pts. High standards yes. Waterford are a bit of an unknown but either side drops points and can compound it with a win on the 28th. There will be little room for error this season irrespective of improvements elsewhere where there are sides that can nick points
