Much tighter this year at the top between Dundalk and Shamrock Rovers, same result though. It’s effectively 4 mini divisions this season, top 2, then 3, another group of 3 and bottom 2. Fairly substantial gaps between each of those groups should emerge by the second half of the season.

    1: Dundalk
Still have that strength in depth and professionalism but will be run all the way by. Some good acquisitions by Perth in the off season. Won’t get away with the sluggish starts of recent seasons.

    2: Shamrock Rovers
An improved performance again this season as they continue to close that gap. The boards faith in Bradley back in 2018 appears to have borne fruit and holding onto Byrne is a big statement.

    3: Derry City
Serious investment in the off season appears to have lifted the mood further after a good 2019. Will miss Junior and Parkhouse.

    4: Bohemians
A club making serious strides on and off the pitch, shouldn’t be able to compete on a part time basis but Long’s side are killing it out of the bag time after time.

    5: Waterford
Some recent transfer activity leads me to believe that Waterford will have a return to winning ways from 2018 season. Rennie has signed some quality and may take a bit of time to gel. Outside bet for one of the cups.

    6: St Patrick’s Athletic
Lot of change once again in Richmond Park, Stephen McDonnell’s winning mentality should have an impact but will take time to settle. Overall I’m impressed with the transfer signings, will be interesting to see how they gel.

    7: Shelbourne
Will be a strong return to the top flight for Shels who seem to be heading in a really good direction over the last 12-18 months. Have signed some good young talent and will surprise a few. Could finish higher.

    8: Cork City
Rumours of financial concerns and selling of future transfer earnings is a worrying start. Fenn will have them playing nice football. Hard to thrive in a club where off field issues seem to be taking control.

    9: Finn Harps
A McNamee / Cretaro creative combination will mean much more creative attacking threat for the entire 90 minutes every game.

    10: Sligo Rovers
A small squad, some interesting new signings and an already growing injury list is a major concern before the season even starts. Heart says survival but Mahon is a much more significant loss than Parkes or Twardek. Anything above 9th place would be a fantastic result for a threadbare squad.

    First Division
    1. Galway United
    2. Drogheda United
    3. Longford Town
    4. UCD
    5. Bray Wanderers
    6. Cabinteely
    7. Cobh Ramblers
    8. Shamrock Rovers II
    9. Athlone Town
    10. Wexford FC

    FAI Cup:
    Shamrock Rovers

    League Cup:
    Waterford FC

    Sack Race:
Struggling to call this one, no stand out candidate. Probably should be Buckley but no chance he’ll be sacked from the Showgrounds. I’ll say Morris but without any conviction.

    Play off:
Finn Harps to beat Longford Town on penalties.

    Europe:
Dundalk to make the group stages of the Europa League.

Top Goalscorer: Hard to look past Hoban. No major standout possibilities at the main clubs.

I sincerely hope I am very wrong about Sligo and Buckley, as they are a fine club, and not just on Friday, but I just think FH have that little of grit between their teeth now. I was only thinking earlier, one game can make such a difference to any team, and Sligo had a great chance to get to the FAI Cup Final last year with a home semi final draw, that would have invigorated them, not many better examples of clubs embracing the cup final than them. Anyway that's my two choices for the drop one, of Sligo and FH.

#DundalkFC - First Irish club to win an away game in Europe (1963), first Irish club to win points in a group stage in Europe (2016).

Seen in paper that Buckley was blaming the Ballybofey pitch! I think hes starting to crack now place your bets!
Gary Cronin is he the right man to manage Longford Town?

I got the Premier and first division winner right and all the teams in the play offs, which wasn't too difficult in fairness.
