Two things about officials in the in the First division I have noticed this year:
Age- They all look like they should be studying for their leaving cert in 2 weeks rather tha refing agmes, I saw them in the warm up and I honestly thought they were youth players, Couldnt be more than 25 any of them at Saturdays game...
Standard - This is a serious issue, I know no matter what we get we will always criticise thats the nature of football, but I sat on the jinks ave stand for the game and in the firts half the lines(boy)man flagged for off side and there 3 DC defenders behind Flannery, not beside him but at least 5 yards
from him. The refs are whistle happy and to be honest I dont think they have a clue as they probably never palyed at any standard of football in their lives.
This is a serious issue not because we wre robbed 3 points Saturday night but it has s direct consequence on the club and it ability to progress. In the day of Sky sports the viewer never misses a thing and all game however bad all seem better on TV. Now transfer to teh showgrounds where a ref does not let a game flow blow us on average every 2 mins, linesmen who do npt know the off side rule and will laways rasied the flag for it to keep themselves in the game not to let their school mate ref take all the limelight, throw in a local 4th official who too wants to be part of the circus, and this does not add up to a spectacle of football..So what happens when specators are asked what was the match like, what can you say it was never allowed to be anything else than a struggle to watch due to constant interruptions...not good to watch and so how can others be convinced to go to games whn this is waht we are subjected too...gates arent good income from games is low and so the team club suffers......something has to give
