City To Protest over loan player

Dublin City FC are to protest to the League over Waterford United's on loan striker Noel Hunt who scored against the Vikings in the Blues 2-1 win at Whitehall.
Hunt, although from Waterford is on loan from Shamrock Rovers. He returned to the Dublin club for the League Cup game against Longford Town and then returned once more on loan to Waterford.
It is understood that the protest is based on Rule 17b and that Dublin City are seeking a re-match. The loss dented City's promotion hopes but moved the Blues into second place three points behind the Vikings.

Waterford United have claimed that the issue surrounding Noel Hunt's elligibility "gained currency" after the Blues beat Dublin City 2-1 on Monday night.

Dublin made an official protest yesterday to the eircom League regarding the elligibility of young United striker Hunt, who scored the first goal in their dramatic, vital 2-1 victory.

A native of Waterford, Hunt joined the Blues on loan from Shamrock Rovers in December. After netting three times in as many games, he returned to the Dubliners in January and scored in the 6-1 League Cup hammering of Longford Town.

However, the striker returned to Waterford two weeks later and was on the mark in the 2-2 draw against Drogheda United at the RSC. League rules insist that there should be a gap of at least 20 weeks before a player returns to his club after a loan deal.

Dublin City chief executive, Ronan Seery, is adamant that the game should be replayed. "This is wrong: the player was illegal and we will push the League authorities hard on this," he said.

But Blues director Rossa McDermott said: "In response to the various press reports in the past 24 hours and for the avoidance of doubt, Noel Hunt only continued his loan period with us after our Chairman, Ger O’Brien, was given the appropriate clearance to do so by the eircom League."

"This matter seems to have suddenly gained currency following the result at Whitehall last Monday night, between Dublin City and Waterford United," he added.

Waterford have confirmed that they received notification from the Seery yesterday, outlining a protest under Rule 16(a) and 17(b) of the eircom Rule Book 2001/2002 in relation to the striker.

As if the league isnt enough of a laughing stock as it is. Between admin errors, crowd trouble, coin throwin and all the other **** goin on at the moment, the league is going to die a death if someone doesnt take it by the scruff.....
