His budget is relatively competitive regardless of the clubs financial issues. Certainly enough for a mid table finish.

I wouldn't rule it out, John Gill came back to Dundalk after almost 10 years.
The more interesting question is , would you take John Caulfield ?

Would Dave Hill not take the Cork City job if asked or is he irrelevant altogether? Pity as had lot of managerial exp with Cobh!
Gary Cronin is he the right man to manage Longford Town?

Wouldn't happen, but wouldn't be against it personally. He appears very harshly judged on his time at Cork (fair enough style of play was poor to watch but still effective).

I'd certainly prefer him to just passing it on to Alan Reynolds, which may happen.

Keith Long is the obvious one to target, if choosing from within Ireland.

Its horses for courses with JC imo. Got CCFC competative in a workman like manner. When there was a championship level budget and ballers in the side he didnt adapt from the cautious approach and thats where Cork fans got frustrated. Currently a manager like Caulfield could stop the rot and avoid relegation with an average squad. Not likely to happen as it would take a serious step back by the BoM to make such a call even if it is arguably a right one in the current plight. That said Dundak and Cork are level pegging in the Pandemic League!

Keith Long to Cork? He'd be mad to take that on no matter what was on the table. Chasing down the bitter rivals for the league or a relegation scrap with a really limited squad and anyway he is holding out for a return to Oriel Park if VP gets the shove.

    I meant Long to us!

Vinny needs to be moved on. It's a matter of when, I'd say, either after Europe this year depending on if our form picks up a bit by then, or at the end of the season.

2 wins over Waterford might take some heat off him, but if they're another 2 performances/results like the last 2 then we'll maybe see how ruthless the owners are.

Whoever is sanctioning the signings or involved in recruitment, if it isn't solely VP, should leave too. The squad is a mess considering the money being spent.

There is some kneejerk reaction to the 2 recent results. Its far too quick for the club to leaning on VP. I get why people are swaying in that direction considering the size and cost of the squad but I dont want to see the club starting to pull the trigger on a manager, it becomes a negative cycle potentially. While VP is manager with Matthew and Gill able to speak up if theres something amiss in the squad. I actually think Higgens was a big loss in that regard. He was probably the link man between players and management like VP was under Kenny. We would like to see the squad used more but again it was a criticism of SK that he didnt necessarily pick form players.

There is no more wriggle room with results, but I'm not totally writing off the season just yet. Strange as it is I think Dundalk and Rovers would be out ahead if the league hadnt been suspended. Other clubs have used the time very well where we have been continually rigid in the system used and there isnt much mixing it up.

If it did come to it there is little doubt that Long has been proving himself as an excellent manager but it wouldnt be cheap to potentially offload 3 or 4 coaching staff and then pay compensation to Bohs and Long would probably want Croly with him too. We're more likely to see some name coming in from England which doesnt sit well either especially if its a journey man name - Big Sam could return to add to his winning the league in Ireland as he says himself.

Higgins certainly appears to be a loss but all this has been coming for a while given the recruitment since Vinny took charge.

Since Kenny left, we've signed Daniel Kelly, Sloggett, Leahy, Oduwa, Patching, Colovic, Flores, Murray, Dummigan, Smith, Gatt, Dogan, McCarey, McKee. Boyle & McMillan have come back in. 16 players.

How many have made a real impact? Daniel Kelly definitely and Colovic looks excellent. That's about it.

In that time we've lost the likes of O'Donnell, McGrath, Benson, Jarvis, Connolly, Ronan Murray, Georgie Kelly, plus a few others you wouldn't want anyway, like Chvedukas.

We've increased in numbers but it's quantity over quality now, and an increased budget.

Our three subs against Bohs were Mountney, Patching and Oduwa! And that was after only 1 change from a shocking performance against Pats. It's a mess.

You can talk about injuries, but this is the first season where the fitness coach, Norton, has been in place for a full year, so is there a problem there? The previous lad, Clarkin, did 2019 pre-season. We look off it in games.

It should really be questioned how there are so many injuries. The club don't seem to want to give any info on them either, especially Leahy and Murray, it's some kind of secret.

Robbie Benson was a strange transfer to St Pats Ath. Was it a disagreement with VP or what? Benson played well in game live on telly after pandemic.

I think it was over his commitment to full time football.

Think his job title is an actuary or something like that!

It is and he is known for being an academic genius. He could earn far more in a senior actuarial positions than in footbball, The problem stems from the tendency in that industry to require 26-28 yr old that have built a good track record in the job by that age. If he was only starting off at say 30yrs old he'd find it hard and competing against newly graduated. Simply with the no need to commute to Dundalk all week allows actuarial work time when at St Pats. We got a couple of extra seasons out of him at Dundalk nut he was always going to move in due course.
