The man who is joint holder of Cork City’s all-time goal-scoring record of 129 goals is busily plotting their downfall in Friday’s final of the Munster Senior Cup.
John Caulfield scored 129 goals in 455 games with Cork and is currently manager of the Munster Senior League team, Avondale United, who play Cork in the Lucozade Sport Munster Cup final at Turner’s Cross (7.30 ko).
Caulfield was partnered in many of those games for Cork by Pat Morley who, coincidentally, also accumulated 129 goals in a career with the club that spanned 331 games.
John O'Flynn is the top-scorer of the players currently on Cork's books with 42 goals from 78 appearances.
This is Caulfield’s third season in charge of Avondale. In his first season he led them out of the First Division of the MSL and last season they were crowned champions of the Premier Division.
They are currently second in the Premier Division to Castleview, who are favourites to win the division this season with Rockmount, who have games in hand, as their closest rivals.
Cork City goalkeeper Michael Devine will undergo minor surgery to correct a knee injury in a Dublin hospital tomorrow. He missed Monday’s Setanta Cup loss to Portadown after a run of 110 consecutive appearances for Cork.

Looking at those goal scoring stats, Flynnie's scoring average is better than the two boys.
Over ten games, their scoring averages are as follows:
Flynnie: 5.38 goals
Caulfield: 3.89 goals
Morley: 2.83 goals
Expressed as goals per game, the figures are:
Flynnie:1 goal in every 1.857 games
Caulfield: 1 goal in every 2.565 games
Morley: 1 goal in every 3.527 games

Remember when Pat Morley missed a penalty against Metalurgs in the last minute of the game. that would have given him the record now by 1 goal.
You could add that to a low moment of supporting City.
I think easier to have high ratio of goals from less games. Will be interesting to see if O'Flynn can keep it going.
Skippys 20 league goals at age of 35 in average city side was one of the better achievements of any city player.
Surely Morley would have a better average that Caulfield if he played less games but scored the same amount of goals?
I reckon that this could be a pretty good game.From what I know of Avondale,they'r a decent side who play good football.
Gamble,O Flynn,Murphy, O Halloran,Fenn and Coughlan are all due to turn out for City.
Might be worth a venture to 'the cross' for neutrals
