Fine Gael has published proposed new legislation aimed at cracking down on ticket touts who rip the public off.
The proposed bill would make it a criminal offence to sell tickets for major events for more than the cover price.
Gardaí would have the power to confiscate tickets from suspected touts, who could be fined up to €3,000 and jailed for up to six months.
Fine Gael TD Jimmy Deenihan said changes were needed as the current law doesn't allow gardaí to prosecute touts.
"The law is inadequate and the law needs to be changed and tightened up," he said.
"I'm saying to the Government: 'Look, if there are weaknesses in the bill, it's fine. Improve them and change them or, if you disagree with the bill, bring forward your own legislation.'"
