Rumour: Doyler to Reading

Was just talking to a buddy of Georgie's there, and he said Doyler will be going to Reading in July. Apparently he has a clause in his contract that allows him to go for 100,000 (dunno if thats £ or €). Hope this ain't true, but I'm beginning to fear the worst

Hopefully we can get some decent clauses in the contract

It was mentioned in the match report in Saturday mornings Sun that Steve Coppell was at the game watching him and by the report he didn't do his chances any harm,even scoring again that's 3 in3 since he came back.

Would he really leave a team that's almost certain imo to get european football every year for the next 5 years,be it champs league or Uefa cup for a team in Englands 1st division who if they do manage to go up to the premiership are almost destined to come back down the following year.

Anyway from what i know of Reading it's defenders they need not strikers.

The economics of Reading vs Cork City mean that they can offer Kevin *4/5 times the money hes on at Cork and it wont be a big deal.

Reading are owned by a multi millionaire and Cork are owned by a chairman with much more modest funds.

As Damien Richardson spoke about at the supporters meeting at the start of the season, its up to Cork City to grow and provide Kevin a platform so that he can achieve his ambitions here in Cork.

I honestly think he is smart enough to stay but if he has any doubts then the right manager is in place to convince him to stay..........as long as he has his dictionary with him for the talk.

Coppell was there alright in the stand. Lets not over-react though yet, they've said nothing about Doyler.

Not to panic lads. Coppell was there to look at Daryl Murphy with a view to poaching him from under McCarthys nose. Straight from horses mouth. Apparently he could not see what all the fuss was about but he reckons McCarthy is a canny boy and so came to see.

Anyone know anything about those UEFA(or FIFA?) laws about young player fees and particularly about how much his previous clubs get. Think it's about 15% to be shared. Anyone else know anything?

RTE radio.....

On the Saturday sports program they had interviews from every game, including the Limerick v Cobh game. Decent interviews with Owen Heery/Doolin from $hels/Drogs, Stephen Kenny: Derry/Bray, Farrelly from Bohs/Longford.

For WUFC/City?
They had some fawning interview with Coppell about his Manure days, NOTHING, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to say about the game or from anybody involved in it.
Pathetic....

As for Doyler, any young lad is going to try a decent club like Reading if he gets a chance. He will get paid a hell of a lot more than any club can pay him here, and he will get to pit himself agianst better players.
Playing the likes of Longford, Bohs, and Rovers isn't much of a challenge for him.....

Kerr might even think he could play for Ireland ......

Ah for god sake....will everyone cop on. the young fella is hardly goin to stay with a club like cork city when he can play for a very decent reading team who always finish in the top 10 of the championship, and anyone who says that he'd be better off stayin with cork city is a damn liar and a fool.

I say that he is better off staying put,Whether(spell?) he's good enough or not(which he is imo) i don't think he will be given a fair chance to shine and will be left on the bench and by the time he decides he wants to go back to Cork City,they while playing regular European football will have raised their standards and probably will have replaced him with better players because the League is improving so rapidly.

I don't want him to go, it would be a massive blow to City, because IMO he's the best player in the eircom League. If he was to stay, I honestly believe that in 4-5 years time, he could be playing champions league football at CCFC- ok, we'd need a few lucky breaks along the way, but its possible. But, the guy is young, he's got bags of talent and he wants to have the best career he possibly can- if he goes to Reading, he WILL get in the first team (sooner or later) because he's a class act, and this is a team that could very likely be in the Premiershi* in a year or two. If I was Doyler, it would be no contest- Reading would win out every time, much as I hate saying it.

Decent training facilities and stadium, opportunity to play in the Premiership and a nice handsome sum in Cork's coffers? There's very little case for people to dissuade him and hopefully in a couple of years you can look back fondly when he's a full Irish international and say you played a part in his development. The lad has a career to mould for himself and why settle for a chicken leg when you have the breast on a plate for you?!

There's one very good reason to dissuade him- he's a class player (the best in the league) and we don't want to lose him. No team wants to lose their most talented player.

Who's resigned to it? I hope he stays, but common sense dictates that if a club thats finished in the top 10 of division 1 in England (or whatever its called now) wants him, then its a good move for him, and he's likely to go
