Terrible news - I heard he was on life support but didn't realise he died.
May he rest in peace.
I know this is already in the Longford Town forum but I think it should be put here too.
The Irish soccer community is in mourning after the tragic death of Shane Brennan, the Athlone Town soccer player who died last night.
Brennan spent the weekend on a life support machine after a freak accident when a roof collapsed under him on Friday night.
The 23-year-old was also a member of the Irish Colleges soccer team for the past three years.
Athlone Town manager Stephen Kelly has said all who knew him are 'numbed'. Athlone's game, scheduled for Friday, has been postponed.
Above is from Aertel and below is from the F.A.I. website:
The President of the Football Association of Ireland, Milo Corcoran, has expressed his deepest sympathy on the death of Athlone Town footballer, Shane Brennan, who died following a tragic accident at the weekend.
“I am shocked and saddened by the news of Shane’s death,” Mr Corcoran said. “His family are deeply involved in underage football in his native Longford and Shane had a bright future in the eircom League with Athlone Town. His tragic passing robs us of a good footballer and a fine young man,” Mr Corcoran added.
“On behalf of the Football Association of Ireland I extend sincere sympathy to Shane’s family, team mates and friends as well as the football family in Longford and Athlone and our prayers go to them at this time,” Mr Corcoran concluded.
Life without Rovers, it makes no sense...it's a heartache...nothing but a fools game. S.R.F.C.
