    Thanks a lot O'Neill.

I don't know how this ref can sleep at night, actually calling him a ref is an insult to their association, he's not not even related to one.He is the most unfit referee I have seen at this level for a long time, and his decision making at times bordered on the ridiculous. To send off McGauley for venting his frustration because the ref seemed to think he was feigning injury.IMO he dosen't look the type of player that would go down unless there was a problem. It was a shameful display of refereeing and I hope the 4th official took note because I would assume the club will at least appeal the 1st yellow card.At least he didn't rob us of all 3 points............git.

Have to agree with you about your comments about O'Neill, I seem to remember he spoiled a cracking cup tie between the sides last year, dished out 8 or 9 yellows when there hardly was a bad tackle in the game.
The only thing I could say in defence of O'Neill about your sending off was that I was talking to a Ramblers official on that side of the ground and he maintained that the player was hurling abuse at both the lines(woman) and O'Neill prior to the sending off, but I guess a yellow would have been sufficient.
As for the game itself it was easily our worst display of the season barring a 15 minute spell after half time,it could have been worse but thanks to our debut keeper for his display, no question you lot deserved the 3 points.
It was good to see a decent crowd and such a contrast for you from last year.
The only minor gripe I would have was that the pitch was not great, to put it mildly, but I guess that you having been away from the ground for 3/4 years it was bound to fall into disrepair.

The ref wasnt the best tonight, but itm was mcgauley that cost us two points ,got a straight red after the first yellow and will get 3 games, will have to learn to shut his mouth, very frustraiting to dominate a game so much and still only get a point.

but thats the point, he shouldnt have been booked in the first place, as O'Neill booked him for being fouled as he did Kelleher for being fouled in the second half. So if your fouled you get booked thats O'Neills idea of reffing McGauley will get a one game ban by the way. It seems you only get three games on appeal and losing that appeal.

Great website, finally got on the board!! Couldn't believe when i saw the red card! Biggest problem for Limerick last night - the midfield! NOC needs to have a long hard look at it, no creation, no innovation, Robbie needs good ball to feet!

    Thanks a lot, O'Neill

Is this the great Jimmy O'Neill we're talking about? Ask Cork City fans about him. He's not biased, just inept.

He was booked for a two footed challenge (according to the ref, Thomas said he was defending himself),`and sent off for questioning the decision too vociferously.

He was an awful ref. I usually take the warnings about refs with a grain of salt - but this guy was woeful. McGauley was obviously giving lip but he'd just been creased and got no free. Unless O'Neill was trying to protect Hilda's virtue. if she doesn't want to hear swearing she picked the wrong hobby. It hardly warranted a red at that stage.

Another bad mistake was not sending off the Cobh defender that handled the ball for the penalty. He wasn't even booked. He was the last defender - and the ref definitely saw it (or he couldn't have given the penalty). He let anawful lot of late tackles go - Tobin was taken out of it in teh air at one stage by their number 9. The red card for Cobh was too blatant for even this guy to miss it.

Limerick were really unlucky and nothing went for us Friday night. I was very impressed with the attitude overall though - we are playing attacking football and look dangerous all the time. Whatever about the result, nobody can claim they didn't get value for their €10.

And fair play to the singers in the shed. Shame on the ones that didn't.

Yes, Derek and Tommy do try and take the ball down and play football, and yes, you could not fault both players for their effort. But Maldini isn't wrong when she says her midfield is ineffective.

I think midfield is a problem for Limerick at the moment and one that NOC hasn't solved yet despite his efforts. I've already said in another thread I think it is pointless playing Derek in a flat four midfield, defensively he is not that strong despite however hard he tries. I think NOC is accomodating CP in the team by pushing Derek back into midfield. Derek is better when he is playing up front or just playing directly behind the main striker. If NOC wants to play three strikers in the team he is going to have to change the formation which would mean sacrificing our main wingers.
As for Tommy while he is good at going from box to box, he needs a disciplined holding midfielder beside him. He is inclined to push forward and when that happens we need someone who is able to slot into the hole in midfield and provide cover for our defence. Our centrebacks shouldn't have to be pushing up so far to cover the gaps our midfield have left too easily, as has been the case numerous times this season.
Limerick 37, its so shiny and new we dare not take the cover off.
