    Birmingham Pen Pic

Another product of the club's flourishing Academy set-up, Mathew Sadler made his first team debut in a League Cup-tie at Leyton Orient in October 2002.

A very skilful and cultured defender, Sadler has represented England youth at several age groups.

He made his Premiership bow in the home game against Bolton a month later and made his second league appearance at, of all places, Old Trafford.

Sadler spent two months on loan at Northampton Town last season where he made seven appearances for the Cobblers but his progress was hampered by a long-term ankle injury.

Now back to full fitness, it is hoped that the Birmingham-born youngster can push for a first team place during the 2004/05 season.

although its great to get these lads strengthen the squad,we do need continuity in our set-up and i would be afraid that giving birmingham reserves "somethng to do" over the summer will mean that when the summer break cross-channell is over we might be left with holes in the squad as these lads depart and unfourtunatley that will coincide with the all important last round of matches which should inevitably make or break our promotion chances, however i do hope that im reading the situation wrong and these lads will be nothing but a positive influence

we need all the help we can get, even if its for a few months only... I reckon its all good if we can have premiership reserve players playing for us even for a few matches!
