Liverpool fans divided on his performance after the match (using Twitter as a metric).. some blaming Kelleher and dissing his overall ability (lots of tweets sarcastically celebrating a save he made), others blaming VVD and saying it's harsh to blame Kelleher. I don't follow much football on twitter, but jayzus I would hate to be a young player having to put up with the sh*te on social media.

I suppose it's those that can handle / ignore on the nonsense / stupidity around soccer that have the better chances of making it.

I don't rate Kelleher that highly but to blame anyone but Van Dijk for that goal is madness. He's been showing signs of decline this season but the Liverpool fans will do everything to not criticise him.

Probably worth having a look at the goal I guess.

That stupid SUBSCRIBE banner covers over Van Dijk's initial error I think, but the shot is from six yards through a defender's legs; I'm not sure how Kelleher can be blamed for that really.

Van Dijks error is well before the shot but the shot is still hit from a few yards away through a defender. Bazunu had a similar one last season I think. Very hard for a keeper to adjust that quick and Kelleher was pretty well positioned. Maybe he could have shifted slightly more towards the near post as the attacker went that way but to blame him is harsh.

It would have been one hell of a save. So ~ Hardly a big error then, if an error at all.

Even if Alisson, whose possibly the best keeper in the world, had managed to make that save it would have been one hell of save.

Can't see Kelleher moving on just now and potential missing out on adding another Carabao Cup to his trophy cabinet, but at least there might be some movement in the summer, finally.

You would think that it can't go on like this. Even if Klopp thinks that Kelleher has the potential to replace Alisson in the future, his couple of missteps and comments from Klopp on the back of them might hint a realization that he is capable but undercooked and needs games over an extended period as opposed to his intermittent stand-ins.

A sale with a buy-back option might work for everyone. If he rips it up at, say, Brentford then he's perfectly positioned to step back up.

    Can't see Celtic affording him.

In fairness Kelleher is on great money with little or no jeopardy ( well unless Allison gets injured / which he tends not to do )

Kelleher is pretty much set up for life as a back up goal-keeper for Liverpool. There must be some temptation to keep taking the Liverpool money and keep getting rich !

It makes sense for Kelleher to now wait until the summer - to see the fallout from relegations, promotions and managerial changes - and Celtic could only get him on a loan deal (which won't happen).

Yes - Kelleher is on good money - but he would easily double it if he proved to be a capable PL starter.

Even a loan deal would probably be out of the reach of Celtic's wage structure

Probably true unless Liverpool were very generous with the terms. Celtic would be a great place to test Kellehers metal. Plenty of pressure playing for Celtic while a lot of the opposition might not be top quality.

Duffy claimed that Celtic were paying his full wages and a few of those online pages have Kellehers wages at 32k. Nat Philips is supposedly on double that and couldn't see Liverpool covering more than 50% of that.

I note that the Sunderland 'keeper (23) has made over 100 appearances for them. For comparison:

Senior appearances Championship Average Championship goals conceded

    Bonham (30 years, 5 months) 251 52 1.13

    O'Leary (27 years, 3 months) 137 87 1.57

    Travers (24 years, 8 months) 82 59 1.00

    Bazunu (21 years, 11 months) 142 27 1.15

    Patterson (23 years, 8 months) 107 73 1.16

Pretty much every Celtic signing is going to be a project or a punt of some form, that's the market the club is shopping in these days, basically the middle aisle in Lidl or Aldi.

Match of the Day had a graphic earlier with the young players at Liverpool, and their appearances
At 25, Kelleher is one of the oldest of the young players, if that makes sense, and I noticed he's the same age as Trent Alexander-Arnold. According to Wikipedia, there's a little over a month between them - Alexander-Arnold was born on 7th October 1998, Kelleher on 23rd November.
But there's a massive gulf in their experience, A-A has 298 senior appearance. Kelleher has 35.
