Sligo Rovers go head to head with one of the pre-season promotion favourites, Kildare County, in the first game of the second series of Eircom First Division matches on Saturday night in Newbridge.
Despite an indifferent start for Kildare, winning three, losing four and drawing twice, the Thoroughbreds will be looking to bounce back after last weeks stinging three one reversal by Limerick.
Meanwhile, Rovers receive a boost with Conor O’Grady back after suspension and they will be hoping to continue their unbeaten away record.
An interested spectator will be Chris Cotterill, who is here on loan from Birmingham. Following earlier visits from Birmingham’s coach, Stuart hall, Cotterill’s arrival is the first evidence of the link that fans will see on the pitch.
“I’m delighted that we’ve got Chris on loan from Birmingham so early. Although Chris will only be available from July when the transfer window opens, it’ll give him a good chance to settle in and get used to our style of play. Chris has been training with us this week. He’s a very competitive right-sided player with good pace. He’s got good stamina, comfortable on the ball and I know he can do a job for me,” revealed Rovers manager, Sean Connor in an interview with sligorovers.com.
Reflecting on the win last week, Connor was philosophical. “It wasn’t pretty was it? It’s what I call an ugly win. But if we’re still grinding out results and not playing well that’s not a bad sign, you know. If I had to take six more of those wins in a row , I would. We need to start dominating games, to find the net more frequently. Apart from that I’m happy.
“As for Kildare, there still one of the strongest sides in the league and will be looking to get back on track. There’s plenty to play for and if we play as well as I know we can, then we can maintain our unbeaten record away from home,” the Bit O'Red boss concluded.
Kick-off in Station Road Newbridge, is 7.30 pm on Saturday, 14 May.
