Not saying he doesn't have ability but he really needs to be doing it at a much higher level. Richie Towell was excellent in the LOI but what is he doing now? Same applies to Daryl Horgan. Pat Hoban was at nothing in England but is a LOI star. The level these lads are at is not good enough to be playing for Ireland. It is far more shocking to me for Mick to be omitting Robbie Brady, James McCarthy, Shane Long, Ciaran Clark, Harry Arter and Keiren Westwood than omitting Jack Byrne.

Richie Towell spent his first year back in England injured. Done well in the Championship last season with Rotherham. Most people raised a few eyebrows when he joined Salford this year, but then again, they have probably the biggest budget of any side in the bottom two tiers of the Football League now.

Daryl Horgan never done a thing wrong in an Ireland jersey and is doing well at Hibs.

Pat Hoban isn't a LOI star. He's woefully over-rated. Scores plenty of penalties, a decent finisher, but that's as far as I rate him.

Byrne is by no means Maradona, but he wants the ball. He wants to create chances, and is constantly looking to push a team forward.

Give me 1 Jack Byrne over 10 Jeff Hendricks any day.

Mick is taking the **** dropping Byrne from the squad and retaining a midfield who were utterly woeful against Georgia. Sooner Kenny is in charge, the better. In for another sh!te 90 minutes tonight.

You don't have to do that at all. I actually agree with you but that's just my opinion.

It's a perfectly valid approach to prioritize experience. It's perfectly valid to conclude Judge simply had a bad night at the office. It's perfectly valid to value place a value continuity throughout a campaign.

But what experience does Judge have internationally? Hes only got a few caps. Same argument for Collins starting ahead of Connolly the other night, hes older but he hasnt got any experience either.

I agree that experience counts sometimes, but only for good players who know who to use that experience to help others. Look at McClean and Hendrick, 2 of the most experience players we have and they were a liability against Georgia and have been for a while now. Experience is over rated for the most part and I would go with players in form.

Mick said he would take a point ffs!

    Looking at the table
Denmark have 15 points (they'll beat Gibraltar)
Switzerland have 14 points (they'll beat Gibraltar and Georgia)
    We have 12 points

They are two active game left Switzerland V Ireland and Ireland V Denmark

A draw tonight would leave the table
    Denmark 15 pts
    Switzerland 15 pts
    Ireland 13 pts
We'd need a win against Denmark.

A lose tonight would leave the table
    Switzerland 17pts
    Denmark 15 pts
    Ireland 12 pts
We'd need a win against Denmark (the decider would be head to head so any win would do)

If we end up playing for a draw instead of going for it tonight it's all on Mick and his mentality.

Yes but in the scenario in bold - Denmark will have already qualfied on head to head with Switzerland. They won't need any result when they come play us.

I'll take a draw tonight - its the best we will be able to get anyway.

That's all I'm saying. It's a matter of opinion. Mick sees it another way from you (and me) when it comes to Byrne v Judge. But that's fair enough. He's not doing anything totally out there.

If we draw tonight Denmark have qualified and the Dublin game becomes a dead rubber for them. A draw is a great result.

We can win this game. We've a decent away record in these sort of games recently. We've won games in Cardiff and Vienna. Why not Geneva.

We're not great going forward but we're solid. If we can nick a goal there's a great chance of us taking 3 points.

I think "I'd take a point" is different to playing for a draw.

He can play for a win but be happy with a draw if it's what we get.

I wouldn't want to see play for a win and get torn apart 4-0 for example. Then morale is low ahead of Denmark, and they've plenty to target

Pitch inspection shortly apparently; might be postponed until tomorrow. (If it was rugby, they'd just give us the draw of course!)

Mick will be desperate to play. A pitch one step up from a rice paddy is perfect for us

Stevens, Connolly and Browne in. Collins also starts. What’s the formation? Is Connolly wide on right with McClean on left? Can’t see him going 2 up front?

Reportedly Stevens playing as a third central defender with McLean and Coleman wing backs? Seems like madness.
That’s according to RTÉ news just now. Maybe Mick spoofing Tony O’D

Delighted with Hourihane dropped and Browne coming in, hopefully he will have a bit of aggression about him.

Connolly on the break could be brilliant.

McClean doesnt deserve to start again but on a bog of a pitch his work rate might be important.

Collins is useless but again this pitch might be a leveler and he is used to L1 and L2 standard pitches so hopefully he puts himself about.

I hope Connolly's couple of bright moments in his run-out on Saturday doesn't have expectations too sky-high. If we get a point here after the way they played against Georgia I'd be pleasantly surprised.

Got asked on twitter who was the last teenager to make their full competitive debut before Connolly?
It was Robbie Keane and Damien Duff, who were named in the starting XI against Croatia in September 1998
