Some fella rang in friday and was giving out about how people should support there local teams and not support english teams aswell. That they go say to the Cross and then go to Ainfield or Old Trafford etc. That they should only support one team ie there local one not both and Rico was on today giving his opinion on it.

I didnt hear it but this is roughly what he covered .....

*Cork City and eircomLeague need to make the game over here more attractive "sexy" to the public
*he has no problem with people going over to England or abroad watching football, once they support their home town club
*FA Cup in 1960's onwards being on TV helped create a large fanbase for English clubs.
*world is a smaller place so people will follow who they want. again said its up to City to try get in the crowds
*City get 4-9 thousand per game, depending on the game, but that isn't really enough for the size of the city. should have around 15000.
*old days in ireland had 15-20 thousand at games throughout the country, 80's and 90's - we lost our way, and didnt invest when we should have.
*Sky etc are good at exporting their product. there are a lot of rubbish games in england as well as good games.

If anyone heard it ... you might let us know what you think !!
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

Those are views he has consistently been airing in public for a number of years. Nothing strange or novel in them.
