If they don’t want to even attempt to play through the middle why not just go to 4-4-2? Could have left Collins on with Connolly beside him, Mick’s classic big man little man combo. Couldn’t be any worse!
Honestly, it seems like there is little in the way of an actual plan. Just 11 players trying to muddle through.
McCarthy telling Hourihane to slow it down. How could it be any slower?
That’s my point. If a new manager keeps picking the likes of Glenn Whelan and McClean you are going to get this.
The only difference is that the media scrutiny will not be as harsh. I expect Kenny to be a bit more radical when it comes to personnel. Only then will be see a major difference in playing style.
Georgia making a sub right on 89 minutes. Clever. Means we can't score in the 89th minute again
Connolly should've been brought on at half time. Look at the danger he's caused already.
Neither McClean nor Whelan are the problem in this game. Whelan has done his job all night and consistently been an option for the defence. Hourihane and Hendrick have been non existent in front of him which is where it's gone wrong.
Georgia are a poor side, other than a couple of tidy midfielders they didn’t offer much. Ireland appalling, Mick incompetent. No point wasting time dissecting things. Let’s focus on the Kenny era.
That is totally not true. Whelan has not showed for the ball or made a forward accurate pass. The hoof over his head at the end for Connolly was pure luck. He also has been horrible defensively getting caught crazily for his booking and giving us no control in midfield. McCarthy last weekend showed how a reasonably competent midfielder goes about their job
I disagree. They limit, define and disfigure the way we play. They are statements of intent. They embody a philosophy of limited ambition, graft, honest endeavour and the famous fighting Irish spirit. They are footballing throwbacks, primitives who lack guile technique and imagination. Hendricks and Hourihane are not world beaters but they might prosper in a team whose effectiveness is not blighted by a couple of footballing Neanderthals.
But in the wider sense, considering the top tier sides etc; surely they are below average? I certainly wouldn’t call them average. Nice midfielders, no penetration up front and leaky defense who were there for the taking, with a dodgy keeper. That’s them at more or less full strength apart from one player
That was shocking!
Hendrick and McClean were very poor on the ball.
I’d have brought on Connolly and half time and replaced Hendrick with Byrne on the hour.
What was the logic in Williams replacing Hourihane when we were chasing a goal?

I really like the updates from FAI on twitter. But calling it a “valuable away point” has brought an amusing backlash from the fans
