Jose's just using him to force Levy into paying for a striker. It's a real shame that Troy has become stuck in this situation, but hopefully his contract situation allows him to force a move to a club with a better approach to youth players.

It's also possible Levy has told him not to play Parrott until he signs a new deal. when mourinho said 'the next step for Parrott is signing a new contract' is certainly didn't feel quite right to me...

If he makes it clear he won't be signing a new contract they'll move him on quickly enough, they won't want to lose him for next to nothing in a year's time.

That's what I hope will happen but I fear they'll manage to bully/bribe him into signing a contract.

It's was reported around a week ago that he's likely to sign that contract soon. It is possible that Parrott actually isn't ready just yet, and that this is pretty obvious to those who watch him training with senior pros every day. Whatever about the bogeyman Mourinho, Pochettino didn't feel he was ready either.

Watching Martinelli (18) for Arsenal tonight I wonder would he have got a sniff if he was at Spurs.

He's a world class 17 year old. However, big difference between a wc 17 year old and a world class 19/20 year old.

Yes he has bossed the underage players of some of the biggest clubs in the world and has been very good for the u21s. However, the adult game is a different beast, especially in the premier league.

I think he will get more game time later in the season, if Spurs are not likely to get top 4. Mourinho has a free hit to test him for next season and the fans will be mad to see him. If Spurs are chasing top 4, then not a hope will he play again.

to be fair to jose he has now been very clear that he has no intention of playing him, so its not like he is offerimg false hope or the like
IMO The ball is in the player and his agents hands to push for a loan move.

Seriously, what are you on about now?
Have I ever claimed that Parrott is ready? Obviously I hope he is but I've basically been defending Mourinho's position for weeks.

A lot of people really slagging Mourinho here but he might just want to protect Troy. If Troy steps in right now as a perceived like-for-like replacement for Kane, and it doesn't work out -- there's always that fear he could take a public battering and that could be a real step backward.

Very few 17 year olds make a breakthrough at this level. We want to see him play NOW but there may be some benefit in letting him simply train with top players on a regular basis, with first team men's football played in low pressure/low stakes situations, along with youth team and reserve outings.

Spurs know they have a real asset in Parrott and want to protect him, set him up to succeed. I would LOVE to see him play immediately and show his quality RIGHT NOW...but I realize the chances of that happening are quite low. Hopefully Spurs manage him properly because the raw ingredients are obviously there for us to have a real star on our hands.

No Parrott or Idah in todays game. I do think Idah not making the squad in last couple games is a bit harsh.

Post match comments from Jose last night - https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/51115606

"We are in a situation when I have to think, think, think," said Mourinho.

"I look to bench and we don't have attacking players. I had to take off Erik Lamela because of fatigue but we showed an incredible reaction to score a second goal.

"When Chelsea want to win they bring on Michy Batshuayi. When Manchester City want to change Gabriel Jesus they bring in Sergio Aguero.

"We are so, so unlucky with injuries. We get back Hugo Lloris and we lose Harry Winks. It's incredible."

Asked whether Parrott is ready to play in the FA Cup on Saturday, Mourinho replied: "He is ready to work with us every day, like he's doing. He trains with the group.

"After training he has a special programme of individual development of his qualities as a striker and this club takes very good care of the players.

"If he has to play with us he will do his best, he will show his good qualities, he will show his frailties because in this moment he is a 17-year-old kid with frailties in his game.

"It's possible that he is selected for the game.”

Oh Jose, you tease! I would really appreciate some clarification so I won’t have to sit through 90 minutes of the putrid football you have spurs playing at the moment to no avail!

17 teen year olds probably don’t know the Mourinho anti-football enough to be giving the chance . Young fellas when they play football rarely dream of playing anti-football.

That'll be the specialized training to turn a striker into a defensive minded full back
