Interesting - it wasn't even a shot, he was trying to square the ball across the 6 yard box, so it definitely wasn't going anywhere near the goal. His only hope is that the deflection came so soon after he hit the cross that how far away from the goal the ball was headed mightn't actually be picked up.

There is a dubious goal committee for the EFL. If the EFL is similar to the PL then they go off Opta and if Opta aren't sure it's passed onto the committee. And I do think Opta are official data partners with the EFL also.

"The identity of the goalscorer is quickly identified by Opta, the Premier League's official data partners.

However, if there is doubt over the identification, it is reviewed by a three-person panel at the Premier League Match Centre.

I presume that's to remove any question of whether the keeper would have saved it or not had it not been deflected?

Yeah. Pretty much. The really tricky part for an analyst (and all these games are coded in live time) is if the deflection occurs so soon after the shot that identifying the direction that ball was destined for becomes speculative. Clients (including official leagues) would sometimes query or push back against Opta's selection but, as a rule of thumb, we would generally (after review of course) back the analyst decision once we were happy with it.

His appearance at the weekend was his 100th club appearance. Not bad for someone his age

Parrott out 'for the foreseeable future', according to manager Ryan Lowe; he seems to mean until mid-December at the earliest, i.e. until the resumption of fixtures after the World Cup. Kenny will have to plan for the Norway game without Parrott, and presumably without Idah.

    Ah balls.

I'm not sure I would have started him in the November games tbh - form isn't great and it's a good chance to look at such other options as we have - but he could do without this disruption so soon after getting off the mark.

Yeah even if he was fit and showing form would still have been better to try other options up front alongside Obafemi.

Even against Malta giving a front three another go is worth a go with Robinson and O'Dowda playing well at Cardiff. Even Brady is playing centrally at Preston now so could play him as one the two supporting the CF with Manning as LWB. Malta are a League D team after all.

Championship is paused for the World Cup 13 November - 9 December, so at least he's not going to miss as many games as he might have done.

Idah not even back running yet, apparently, so he'll probably be missing too. Perhaps Will Keane will get another opportunity. Been in decent form and theoretically he'd make a good foil for Obafemi. Ferguson might be given a chance too.

Yeah think he'd be more suited to playing in a front two with someone like Obafemi. Even when Wigan play with two up top they've often played a more 3-4-1-2 with Keane playing behind the front two in a deeper role.

The one game he started for us I think he started as the CF in a 3-4-3 with Robinson and Ogbene supporting him.

Indo saying he managed to injure himself celebrating his goal (and indeed he was subbed off two minutes after it)

Yeah after he scores he turns and runs back towards the Preston half and then hits the deck holding his hammy.

PNE manager Ryan Lowe says "Troy won't be with us anytime soon. He’s progressing well and he’s out of the grass with the ball doing small passes and he’s on the way to a full recovery. We’ll monitor him, he will be with us in the next three or four weeks I would have thought.” (Deepdaledigest.com, 8 Dec)

Might just be sufficiently match fit to be included in Ireland squad for the France game?

Spurs have agreed that Parrott is fit to play again, according to the Irish Post today, but PNE manager Ryan Lowe will be cautious about putting him on the pitch too soon (Lancashire Evening Post).
