I think Parrott is making a conscious effort to enunciate his vowels so that people understand him. Otherwise, he would be blitzing through words, singing sentences like Irish people can tend to do (me anyway).

There was a woman on newstalk speaking about this kind of thing during the week, it's not about losing your accent, more to do with making yourself understood. I had a similar issue myself, I even had to slightly alter my name so the locals could understand!

Speaking he reminds me a bit of Frank Stapelton, who also spent time in the Netherlands of course, be great if he ended up reaching Stapeltons levels.

I think Troy's career will be very interesting to follow from here. He's not going to be the superstar he was made out to be five years ago, but he looks set to have a very decent career, at club level at least.

If he can stay fit and continue his club form he'll get close to 20 goals this season. If he could do that for a couple of seasons back to back that will definitely generate interest in him again, and AZ wouldn't hesitate to sell him on for a decent profit. I don't know that it will necessarily be from the Premier League though, and he could hardly buy a goal in the Championship, so that league clearly doesn't suit him.

He looks settled on the continent, so other leagues - Germany, France etc. are much more likely destinations for him than for most Irish players. Or he could find himself at one of the three big Dutch clubs. He's more of a technical player than an athlete and that's probably why the route he's taking in the game suits him more than England did.

I'm not sure you can say that Championship doesn't suit him, the end. He's two years older now and will have improved in that time

His record at Millwall and Preston was something like four goals in about 50 games. I'm not convinced it would be that much different now - he's not that quick and he's not especially physical so he doesn't really suit that league. But he does seem a very good fit for football as it is played on the continent. Not clear yet whether that will translate to him becoming an important player for Ireland.

Sure, but he was 18 at Millwall and 20 at Preston. He's 22 now. You'd expect to see big improvement in that time.

Also Preston and Millwall weren’t exactly playing football that suited Troy. In better footballing sides, i think he would have gotten more from the league.

He’s currently second in the Eredivisie scoring charts, two off first place. If he ends up top scorer, I think he’s guaranteed a big move whether it’s to a title contending eredivisie side, or to Germany, France, Portugal, even a good Premier League team.

The fact he’s been successful at two clubs in a row is really good. Shows that last season wasn’t a flash in the pan.

Watching Spurs on Sunday, I actually thought Troy would have done well in that Ange side, could see him scoring a lot of goals there.

Logical that award would see him included in the team of the month also:

Has missed 2 big chances in the first 20 mins against PSV.

Should have tapped in after the rebound from his own headed dropped back to him. Then he semi fluffed a cut back into an open goal and the defender did really well to just about clear it when 90% of the ball was over the line.

Could have easily been 2 on another day.

He's also got himself an awful new hairstyle in the form of cornrows.

The cornrows are to take the emphasis of the veneers. He is a shaper but I don’t care if he’s in form and banging in the goals, and brings that to the international stage
Folding my way into the big money!!!

Came off the bench and scored a great goal. Started the move and finished it.

Brought a ton of energy and started leading the press the moment he came on as well. Very impressive.

Graham Carey is the only other player I can find who scored against them. Scored the opening goal for CSKA Sofia against Roma in a 5-1 loss in September 2021
    Goal at 0:15 below
All goals, yellow and red cards tweeted in real time on mastodon, BlueSky and facebook

That's a big goal for him. At home against a huge team relative to AZ.

Another win next week and they give themselves a great chance at a winnable knock out tie.

He should be back in the starting team again this weekend and hopefully he can get back to scoring domestically as well.
