Pochettino will be back in a job soon, so maybe he’ll get a move there.

Early days for the lad yet, it is a big ask to start for a top club as a striker when you have pretty much no first team experience, a defender is a bit different, maybe there is other stuff going on, but it is a big ask, if he played badly Mourinho would be blamed, he does not need to take that risk.

John Delaney could sort out a loan but there may be repercussions !

With Spurs really struggling for goals it has to sheer stubbornness of Mourinho not to even have a young striker on the bench, you would think he would at least try it when they dont have any other options

Nothing to lose by bringing him in at this stage, they badly need freshening up. Three PL blanks in a row, four in the last five. They were fairly free scoring prior to that to be fair.

Hear this repeatedly but what other managers are playing seventeen year olds regularly, or at all?

Harvey Elliott is getting more game tome at Liverpool at 16. As is Curtis Jones at 18. As was Trent at 18.

United - Ben Williams and Mason Greenwood currently.

Chelsea - Hudson Odoi at 18 (now 19)

Phil Foden at 17/18 for City...

To me, Troy should at least be getting some minutes in the first team in the cup. He’s at least as ready as Adam Idah was.

The injury crisis and lack of depth has also made the situation much more obvious... if he was at City or Chelsea or Arsenal or Liverpool, we wouldn’t be expecting as much, but they literally don’t have a fit striker in their squad. Meanwhile, they won’t give Troy a few minutes to see if he sinks or swims...

Mourinho probably feels giving any young players he gave a chance to at Utd was a mistake.

This is Mourinho we are talking about here .

In my mind, he’s a comparable talent to Jadon Sancho who played 12 games in his age 17 season for Dortmund in the league and then was a regular at 18.

Those talents don’t come around for regularly but when they do, under good management they come to the fore. Raheem Sterling breaking into Liverpool at 17 is another example...

The former two got game time in competitions Klopp was basically trying to get knocked out of, or at least he wasn't concerned if they did. Parrott was unfortunate that Spurs couldn't progress further in the League Cup but he did get an opportunity in that competition. Trent was 18 you say, still older than Parrott.

Williams is 20. I'd accept Solskjaer looks very willing to give youth a chance, he's pretty obsessed with it being 'the United way', while it's also been kind of circumstantial. The Europa League provided a useful platform to bed in the likes of Greenwood and some others, not sure how much game time they would have got if United were in the CL.

Not meaning to be pedantic but that's still older than Parrott, and obviously Chelsea have had to deal with that transfer embargo.

Notoriously underused though, even now and he's nearly 20. If he was playing under Mourinho the knives would be out that he's killing his career. Guardiola's record of bringing young City players through is fairly abysmal.

Yeah, I think there's a lot of truth in this. I was very disappointed he wasn't on the bench against Middlesbrough anyway. The Spurs bench is pretty strong looking though, hard to dislodge established senior pros. It is a bit disappointing with the lack of a recognised number nine I agree.

I've no issue there, I just think the narrative that Mourinho doesn't trust young players is a bit overstated, in the context of what other managers and clubs are doing.

It really is a pity at times to see how money is ruining the game

When Robbie Keane was 17 (1997/98 season ), if clubs had an injury crisis, they still generally had to turn to their youth setup. Often that would mean a slump in form, but sometimes you'd uncover a gem of a player, who'd benefit from the game time. (Rashford is probably the only recent example I can think of?) Mol an óige agus tiochfaidh sé, as they say. Now by doing that, you risk your board not splashing out €25m on yet another random prospect from a second-tier European league.

Everyones saying it's money or its mourinho or its this and that anything but oh hold on maybe he's just not good enough. Yet potentially. This forum always seems to take the side of anything else. It's like a mother with their favourite child. Reminds me of that documentary "Don't fcuk with cats"
