    Lincoln Irish

Set up as a new the thread due to the abundance of young Irish lads there now in Roughan, Moylan, Duffy and Mandroiu and Captain O’Connor - not sure what scouting links they have, but becoming a great breeding ground.

Sounds like Moylan had a stormer scoring a brace in a 5-1 away win against Barnsley. Cited by one fan: “What a difference Moylan has made, I honestly cannot remember a better 45 minutes from any Lincoln player in 55 years”. Mandroiu also played well with fans effusive with praise on their forum…

A lot of Irish People used to pick potatoes around Lincoln back in the day ~ Some may even have stayed.

I wonder do a lot of Irish People know that ? !

They've got Oisin Gallagher too whose on loan at Drogheda. Of the six the only one they didn't sign directly from an Irish club was Paudie.

Lincoln green would be a better thread title.

More goals for Moylan. Another brace and the game not even 30 minutes old.

A goal for Duffy and assists for Mandroiu and Moylan in a 6-0 rout v. Cambridge Utd.

Eleven goals in two games! No wonder they were glad to see the back of Kennedys goalless draws if they have those sort of results in them. Skubala certainly getting the best out of them (Didn’t realise he managed Kilman as England futsal manager).

Sounds like our young lads played a prominent part.. https://forums.vitalfootball.co.uk/t...h-here.137250/

How highly was Moylan rated in the LoI? Wikipedia referring to him as the best player in the country? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Moylan

Very highly rated but I'd say "best young player in the league of Ireland" might have been more accurate. He was excellent though and mostly played out of position. Definitely safe to say he was the top prospect. Maybe Murphy or Curtis off Pats were in that bracket but I'd have had Moylan top.

That'd be my take but Shels fans might disagree.

Where does it say that? (Or was it edited since?)

He moved on the basis of one really good season (top scorer last year). That's not to be disparaging about him - he's only 22, and a young player will often move after a breakthrough season - but he wouldn't have had the longer impact of, say, Jack Byrne or, going back a few years, Glen Crowe/Jason Byrne, who you'd be more inclined to think about when you talk about the best player in the country. otoh's summary (best young player, along with one or two others) is more accurate I'd say.

No underage caps, at any level. Is that correct?

Seems so per wiki. Bit of a (slightly) late bloomer, if we take it his first decent LoI season was at age 21.

It was a huge oversight by Jim to never call up him or Promise to the 21s. We all said it at the time. I remember when he signed for Shels, Duffer described him as “the best player in the first division last season“ and he was immediately Shels best player and one of the most exciting players in the league.

3 - 0 up in twenty minutes today, ex Limerick FC player O'Connor with the opener. Two points outside the play offs now from nowhere at the start of the year, four Irish playing, one on the bench.
