Stokes was a brilliant player at a certain level. Any time he tried to step up though, the failed miserably, even when he was actually trying.
stokes definitely more talented! he was a headbanger though. idah isnt good enough for celtic if they want to do anything in europe. thats the sad reality of it.

Stokes lacked that yard of pace to play successfully, at the higher levels he tried and failed at. If I recall correctly, Liam Brady said there was a high quality player in Stokes, if he did have that pace that he lacked !
He was maybe never as good as he could have been, but I saw both the trying version of Stokes and the non-trying version while he was at Hibs and it was night and day. At that level he was capable of overpowering defenses, including the Glasgow teams', but only when he could be arsed.
He was apparently an absolute nightmare to deal with off the field and in the dressing room.
Hes just a scrote in general
Its really not that complicated!!!
Not in the squad for the Old Firm derby today.
Not entirely surprising given the transfer situation, but not ideal prep for the international window either.
Rangers have just taken the lead, which will surely heap even more pressure on the striker situation. Rangers without a win in the league this season of course and Russell Martin is under huge pressure with that and the Club Brugge hammering.
Edit - goal ruled out actually.
That’s handy as, short of a paper-cut, he won’t get injured. We’re light on striking options now that Parrott’s out. Ferguson will need to be relieved at some stage of both games. Doesn’t sound like Ogbene is fully fit either which calls into question the wisdom of leaving Festy out (if he’s over his tantrum I’d have him back in pronto). I’m still a bit apprehensive of McAteer.
Szmodics is an option as well. Would rather him than Idah if we're chasing the game against a team sitting deep holding a lead.
Offficial confirmation now.

How many Irish players have had successful careers at Celtic since the beginning of the Packie Bonner era at Celtic ?
Below is the years that Packie Bonner was at Celtic. I suppose Chris Morris had a decent run with Celtic. Funny that not that many Irish players have done that well at Celtic.
I suppose Mick McCarthy did ok at Celtic as well.
And of course Aiden McGeady
1987–1989 Celtic 48 (8)
so, there is a few but not as many as one would maybe think !
2004–2010 Celtic 185 (31)
Anthony Stokes did alright there too - 76 goals in 191 games
Celtic isn't really a club for having successful careers at any more though - it's a shop window to move on from, preferably upwards.
The longer you stay there, the more abuse you get from the supporters.Just look at Callum McGregor as the latest example.
Looks like Idah's replacement at Celtic will be Iheanacho on a free transfer, a guy who scored 1 league goal last season (on loan at Middlesbrough), and totals of 5,5 and 4 in the three seasons previous to that.
The argument could be made that Liam Scales has done alright at Celtic. Couple of league titles and cups there, but seems to be another scapegoated by supporters
https://kesslereffect.bandcamp.com/album/kepler - New music. It's not that bad.
Tommy Coyne-105 league appearances, 43 league goals.
Darren O'Dea played 49 league games and won 4 trophies
Jonny Hayes made 67 appearances in all competitions over three years and won a bunch of trophies.
But yes, even including these lads and Stokes doesn't make the list very long.

What state are Swansea in these days? They've been Championship for the last 7 years. I see they have Ronaldo and Zidane. But no, on second look that's Ronald and Zeidane.
I'm happy enough to see Idah move on from Celtic. You almost can't do well enough there to overcome the "yeah but it's only the SPL" caveats, and you can certainly sink there.
You can't spell failure without FAI
Swansea have been about as predictable a mid table team as you could find at that level. Never look like going up, never look like going down. Last made the playoffs five seasons ago.
