Norwich have announced that "Adam Idah, Abu Kamara, Vicente Reyes, Tony Springett, Jonathan Tomkinson, Jaden Warner, Brad Hills, Louis Shipley and Emmanuel Adegboyega will return from their respective loans". Five first team players, several U-21s and 15 academy players are being released. ( (The Pink Un, 20 May).

A terrible move for Idah’s confidence and his career going forward. Snapshot will be fuming.

Some loan signing. They wouldn't have won the league without his goals since January and now he's won them the cup as well. Might cost them a couple of million extra to sign him permanently now.

Was it something like £5m that they said Norwich valued him at? Should try and throw Johnston into whatever deal for him. Offer them £3m and Johnston to see what happens.

massive for Idah - there is nothing better for a striker than to win a final in the last minute of a game.

    Classic striker’s goal. Very Robbie-esque

I think you can call that a very successful loan spell. Fair play to him. Delighted he got his moment today after Ibrox

He'll always be able to tell himself he's the guy that won an Old firm cup final for Celtic. That can only be good for his confidence and belief.

There was a good post here a few back about his last Old Firm goal getting equalized and the nullification to an extent of the impact. Null this.

That I would fume at an Irishman doing well is utter nonsense. Idah dropped to a lower grade where failure would have dire consequences for his career. His cup final winner was against the only other club who currently might survive at bottom-end Championship level. So bonus point for that.

He's been reported as anxious to sign for Celtic. Good. It makes sense, he has found his comfort zone at SPFL level. He’s doing what is new to him - scoring regularly at club level. He’ll also be guaranteed European competition. Maybe that’s the carrot, courtesy of the pathetic, ugly and sectarian duopoly that incredibly has finished 1-2 for the past 40 years.

Well for one thing they haven't actually finished 1-2 for 40 years. There have been multiple seasons in that time period where that hasn't happened.

Look I'm no fan of the Glasgow clubs in Scotland, and for most Irish players it is likely still a bad idea to sign for Celtic. But it has unquestionably been a huge success for Idah this season.

I'm not sure their fans sufficiently rate him or deserve him and I'd actually find it quite funny if they miss out on him because they didn't agree a transfer fee back in January and he ends up at PSV or somewhere. But he does seem a good fit for the club and we obviously want him to do well, so if he signs for them permanently it will be a good thing overall.

Fair alternative take. I stand corrected on stats, ta.

Been keeping on eye on the Celtic forums since his move. The majority definitely want to keep him - cited by a few at their best January signing ever - although do seem to have delusions of grandeur probably stemming from being spoiled by seeing big men like Hartson and Sutton playing for them (let alone Larsson and Mane regularly).

Think the most impressive attribute of his move is he looks hungry. He’s running like a bull as soon as he comes on terrifying defenders and his anticipation was great for the goal also. Often think bigger strikers need time to adapt to their physiological strengths and come through late like Drogba, Sheringham, Crouch, Quinn etc. so it’s been a good step in the right direction.

Interesting that Celtic look to have refused to agree to a £4 - £5m fee buy clause on the deal and are now fearing an auction. Norwich also have a new manager incoming, do will hopefully be in-demand.

It's not far off correct - or would be if you look at the last 30 years. From 1995/96, there was the year Hearts stormed away at the start (and still only came second, in 2005/06, having sacked their manager after starting the season with 26 points from 30), the four years Rangers were outside the top flight altogether, and their first two years back when they only finished third.

1995/96 was the first time Celtic had finished top two since 1987/88 though.

Not that it's particularly important. He needed a loan, he got one and has done well. Bit of confidence back if nothing else. I think we can all agree it's not a great league, and coming on in the last 15 minutes against L1/L2 equivalent defences is a handy job. Had he flopped there'd have been serious concerns about his level, but he didn't. Let's see what the summer brings now.
