Stephen O Donnell is a born winner. He would be like a breath of fresh air in Inchicore. Some current players may not survive if he does come in.

Its a very low risk \ high reward strategy to appoint him

Brian Gartland is under contract to 2020, but is probably a more likely mover than Robbie Benson if Dundalk sign Liam Scales or a top centre half. Same situation for Dane Massey if Dundalk signed Daragh Leahy or another higher standard left back

Yes please to Benson (wouldn't expect Dundalk to let him go though). Gartland, not so much. Don't think we need him. O'Donnell would be a big punt alright. Being a top class player is no guarantee at all that he'd be a good manager. Certainly couldn't see him leaving Dundalk for a temporary position.
Out for a spell, got neglected, lay on the bench unselected.

Former Dundalk FC captain — and current Lilywhites opposition analyst — Stephen O’Donnell is expected to be confirmed as the new manager of St Patrick’s Athletic over the weekend.

So is Roy Keane. That said, I have no idea what O'Donnell would be like as a coach and I'd wish him the best as a Shamrock Rovers legend.

    Slightly more measured and calm.

There is always a risk with a managerial appointment, but O'Donnell is an astute and intelligent person who relates very well to others

The more I ponder the appointment the more upbeat I become. It’s a gamble but he brings a lot of experience from his playing days and I’m sure he will bring lots of passion and determination to the job. The one thing I love about the game is that there is always a fresh start around the corner.

Massey only signed a new contract last winter, I think up to end of 2020. Benson only does one year deals.
#DundalkFC - First Irish club to win an away game in Europe (1963), first Irish club to win points in a group stage in Europe (2016).

Confirmed now anyway. Two year deal. It’s a gamble on both sides but if O’Donnell is as good a coach as he was a player then it’s a great move for Pats.

That's right. Both Gartland and Massey are under contract to end of next season so moves for either are unlikely. However if Dundalk needed to make space for higher quality replacements, I would not rule out a move for either. Ironically Benson is the only one of the three mentioned who is out of contract and probably the least likely to move.

Change the name of this thread and never utter that name again. A fresh start.

Whatever about O'Donnells lack of experience hes a different name on the LOI managerial merry go round, coming from a winning environment will bring its own benefits for Pats, that said I hope his first game goes as badly as possible!!
