Was over in Galway during the week and couldn't believe how courteous the doorstaff were in the pubs I visited.
My experience of bouncers in Dublin has been mostly negative, just wondering is the problem of idiotic bouncers just in Dublin or is it nationwide?

Reckon it's nationwide, similar experiences many times out in Limerick, one night a mate got refused entry because he didn't have a collar on his shirt!
My experience in Dublin was horrible aswell. I worked as a security officer for 4 years while I was in college and some of the stuff I saw was unreal. Got offered a job on Dame Street on nights in a Spar shop. I wouldn't have survived one night for I'm pretty light. A friend of mine is barred from Whelan's for 6 weeks for standing up for a very quite mate who was pushed for not moving and she took it up with them. There was no need for any of it. On the other hand its just an act. Met one here in Donegal when I was on a night inspection. Had him in bits because he put on the act and refused myself and a colleague entry. I get the great pleasure of seeing him in court.

I've never really had a problem with bouncers in cork (if you dont count the time i was escorted out of a club with my hands behind my back by two bouncers for starting a one man mosh pit).. in my experience if you look a bouncer straight in the eye as you;re going and and say "hows it going" or somesuch you'll be alright.
Whatever it was I am sure it was better than my plan to get out of this by pretending to be mad. I mean, who would have noticed another madman around here?

i remember me bro telling me about a time he was in dublin with a few of his mates and he wasnt being let in for one of their usual stupid reasons, so he said why like, he was sober, your man wouldnt answer etc, then the bouncer started getting thick as fook and was about to lace me bro but the other fella stopped him. My brother has never been in a fight, but he is a fierce big lad ( not fat, muscular ), he said after he wouldnt have minded getting a belt, so he could sue!! and if he didnt do that i'd say he would have hammered your man.
bouncers in england are a lot more professional and arent on these powertrips like irish bouncers are. Irish bouncers let it go to their head and think they have something to prove.

It was indeed the Landmark Hotel. Rockin' Robin's was closed at the time.

What I mean is he crumbled and pleaded for us not to get him into trouble. I'm not a guard, we did however require the assistance of two gardai to get in.
Thought it was funny how this guy with attitude ended up near sobbing. As somebody mentioned earlier look them in the eye.

I reckon its nationwide, My brother is a pioneer (although he has a shaved head) and sometimes gets refused entry on the basis that he's too drunk. He lives in Galway, back home in Dublin, he seems to get into places fine...
Was never in Cartown. Just the Landmark for me in Carrick. I wasn't light at the end of the night. Amazing the strenght of a few beers. Aye I'm light enough.ya used to work with a few of them down there, you mean cartown not rockin robins

I live in Dublin now and as ignorant as most of them are here they arent a patch on the bouncers in Limerick where I went to college. Most places in town wouldnt think twice about turning you away if you hadnt a collar/ werent wearing black shoes/ turned up at the door on your own because your mates were already inside. Also got the 'regulars only' line at a bar Id gone to most weeks for four years by a new bouncer the night I finished my finals!
Remember that old fave they used to come out with:
"Sorry lads, not tonight,no white socks allowed"
not a fan of the white sock meself but just seems a bit of a stupid reason.
