    WYW v Galway

Wexford lost more ground in the WNL as they conceded a late equaliser against Galway in Ferrycarrig this evening despite having a player advantage. WYW came back from Lithuania with a number of injuries, including Lauren Dwyer, Lolly Conlon and McKenna Davidson and started with Maeve, Lynn, Nicola, Becky, Ciara, Aisling, Edel, Kylie, Aoife, Lauren and with Rianna up front. A common complaint in regard to Wexford, namely their slow start, occurred again as Galway dominated the first 15 minutes and notched the first goal. Galway couldn’t steer a good cross goalwards in the first minute, but got their goal in the fourth minute as a shot by Galway’s Chloe Singleton crept in at the far post. Maeve Williams then pushed another effort by Galway over her own cross-bar before Edel Kennedy had Wexford’s first proper chance on goal on 19 minutes when she had a decent effort on the Galway goal which went a yard wide. This was followed by two frees by Wexford's Ciara Rossiter, the first of which went a yard wide and the second hit the Galway wall but Wexford had at least improved as the first half progressed. 1-0 to Galway at half-time.

There must be strong half-time tea served in Ferrycarrig as Wexford came out with far more passion in the second period. Wexford applied early pressure and got their reward on six minutes when Kylie Murphy got a touch to an Edel Kennedy shot to give McPhilbin in the Galway goal no chance and it was 1-1. On 16 minutes, Rachel Baynes of Galway picked up a second yellow for a very high challenge on Wexford’s Kylie Murphy and it got better for Wexford when, from the resulting free, the ball arrived at the near post where Edel Kennedy prodded home and it was 2-1 to Wexford who now had a player advantage. Maeve Williams then pushed a McKenna Doyle effort on goal over the crossbar for a Galway corner and, at the other end, Kylie Murphy almost scored when she knocked the ball past McPhilbin in the Galway goal and got a whack from the advancing Galway keeper as a reward. It looked curtains for Galway when Wexford were awarded a peno midway through the half, but the normally very reliable Rianna Jarrett saw her shot from the penalty spot bounce off the Galway goal-post and away. Wexford still looked like securing the three points until five minutes before the end, when a speculative cross by Lynsey McKey of Galway far out on the right wing flew in high at the far post to give Maeve Williams in the Wexford goal no chance. Further Wexford pressure failed to secure a winner and it ended 2-2 at full-time. Late subs for Wexford were Katrina Parrock and Vanessa Ogbonna.
