Rico comments to be investigated
Cork City boss Damien Richardson could be in hot water over the comments he made about referee Mark Courtney in the wake of his team's 1-0 defeat at Tolka Park on Monday night.
Rico claimed that the match officials were intimidated at half-time "by people waiting for them", adding that the early second-half decision to award Shelbourne a goal was a "disgrace".
The competition's organising committee are now set to investigate the matter.
Television replays seem to show that City goalkeeper Mick Devine saved Jamie Harris' effort on goal on 51 minutes, with the man himself admitting he was surprised the header was given as a goal.
"I didn't celebrate because I hit the ground and all I saw was Devine diving slightly back into his net.
"I couldn't really tell if it was in or not. I thought it was 60-40 against it in those situations."
However, Richardson was not the only disappointed manager after the game. The win for Shelbourne ended Portadown's chances of winning the competition and boss Ronnie McFall was far from happy with the controversial decision.
"We are out of it now - but I still don't understand why that Shelbourne goal was allowed," he told the Irish Daily Star.
"I have studied the television replays of the incident several times and I couldn't believe it when Dungannon referee Mark Courtney took his assistant's advice and immediately pointed to the centre circle.
"In my opinion the ball didn't cross the line but sometimes football is a cruel game.
"Had the match finished scoreless, we would have been travelling to Turners Cross looking for a 1-0 win to get us into the final.
"Now we will be playing for our pride when he make the 480 mile round trip to Cork."

It does if you're from Cork.
It seems that Rico,s comments about the referee will be investigated by the Setanta Cup Commitee yet Managers in the Eircom League can practically slanderise a referee without any sanction being taken!!!!!
Eanna, who cares what some jackeen thug thinks?
Nothing can change the result, and we still have it in our own hands.
3 or 4 nil to us.
I've arranged it with Ronnie!.....![]()
Hold on a sec. The way I read it, the Setanta Cup Committee could be investigating the substance of his comments, rather than the fact that he made them in the first place.Originally Posted by MAN-IN-BLACK

Exactly .... why dont they look into the "goal" that never was and investigate how much substance was in that.Originally Posted by Fair_play_boy

The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.
I think would be an advantage if Rico was sanctioned. Would really enhance the them & us motivator which works for teams all across europe.
