    Israeli game on the radio

I normally watch Irish games in a pub (Setanta) in Toronto where I live but will be in Halifax on the East Coast of Canada on June 4th where apparently there are no pubs with Setanta and nowhere to watch the game.

RTE never broadcast the games over the Internet - why I do not know as they never answer my questions on the subject - so I'm worried I will not be able to see or hear the game at all.

Is any station broadcasting the game over the net - how about Israeli radio.

Please Please help this desperate exile.

    Thanks,

rte dont do it because of broadcasting rights etc. you should try www.freefootball.org
there is a good chance you may even get a live stream of the match there quality is decent enough as well you just have to make sure you log in in time.

As another exile in Toronto, I can say that I indeed have listened to many games via RTE's website, including the current campaign. You have to log in very early though, as there is only X # of connections. At a certain point (or if you lose your connection), you will be unable to get back on, and are automatically sent to the RTE 2 audio feed. But if you are early enough, you are fine.

Having said that, why not try to find a real venue? Never count out the Irish, there are many Irish pubs there, so why not giving one a call and see if they carry Setanta? A couple of quick calls could make your day - Friendly Irish may even give you a quick lead to another place. See below, and good luck. Take it from me - I work for a company whose head office is now in Halifax, and there is not a whole lot to do there, so watch the game if you can!

    Thanks,
FYI BBC Radio 5 Live never broadcast Premiership games over the net something to do with not having the rights. Not sure whether international games have the same restriction. Consult widely it is possible that there may be some station broadcasting bits from the game.

P.S. RTE used to have a short wave frequency, may still have it, might be another possible option

Thanks for the reply. I've been to Halifax before and it is pretty small. I'm sure you are wrong about RTE carrying the games on the net. They used to and it stopped several years ago so I think Paul may be right.

They do carry the rugby matches.

They carry soccer games on Medium Wave which is not available on the net.

    I'll check out your sites....

Do you watch the gfames in Scallywags?.

    Cheers...............

mate things must have changed but they used alwlays switch over to mw and you were never able to listen to the match. again something to do with broadcasting rights, its been a year at least though since i tried to listen so im assuming it must have changed

the problem is there are loads of "irish" pubs everywhere, but none of them have setanta, as none of them are really irish.

Is Channel 892 on SKy Digital worth trying? That's RTE Radio 1 in the UK anyway.

i think theyve stopped the mw and now broadcast on lw252, still no good for canada though. im over in leicester and can hear the friday night eircom league games.

i would always turn on the rte live stream an hour or 2 before kick off. its the only way, like was said earlier

Thanks for all the replies folks. I'll definitely try that live streaming site and all the other suggestions.

I'll log onto RTE a couple of hours before the game but I'm not very optomistic.

If anyone has contacts in RTE can they get a definitive take on whether they will broadcast the game on the net. It has always driven me nuts that they would broadcast games on MV to an area where everyone can watch the game on TV and not bother to broadcast to those of us who can not.

But they are such a usless shower anyway. Often for rugby matches they run out of capacity but then I have the option of BBC radio ulster.

I'll be devestated if I miss the game - . I went to France and Japan and Korea and would go to more games if I could get tickets. I failed in the lottery for tickets for Germany but will go anyway if we qualify.

    Cheers................

I've just had confirmation on another site for a guy living in Newfoundland that RTE have covered all the qualifiers for WC2006 to date on the net.

Thanks McCanada - sorry I doubed you.

No problem for doubting me...or even for needing confirmation from a Newfie Give it a good 90 min to connect to Radio 1, and you should be fine. And yes, I've been to watch a few at Scallywags, but on weekends I would also venture to some place on Kingston Road, the name of which escapes me. The game v. France will be on basic cable though, so that's a perfect time for a BBQ.

But, give the bars a shout....you'd be shocked what you can find. I've been to many places to watch Champions' League games via TV throughout the city - Even the smallest clubs - Greek club teams, Czech and Russian, Iran, China, Mexico- they all have small pockets of loyal support who find ways to view the games live. Halifax has a large enough pop to make it happen, I would think.
