    Wexford FC v Bray

Wexford not at the races in Ferrycarrig tonight as early goals from a physically dominant Bray killed Wexford off both on the scoreboard as well as mentally, and both sides were simply going through the motions with a long way to go. Wexford started with Corey, Ricky, Darragh, Lee, Andy, Sean, Crokey, Paddy, Shane, Emmet and with Danny up front. Bray looked to test Wexford in the air from early on and it led to the first goal when a Wexford defender and Bray forward made contact with the ball sailing out for a goal-kick. Referee Buttimer awarded Bray a peno and Keegan blasted it home to put Bray ahead after only five minutes. Sava in the Bray goal then had a standard grab to keep out a Danny Furlong effort before Corey Chambers got down well to keep out a second Bray goal on nine minutes. It was 2-0 to Bray on 18 minutes when Bray won the ball in the air againat the far post to leave McCann with a tap-in for 2-0. On 26 minutes, it was 3-0 to Bray when Martin lashed a shot past Corey Chambers in the Wexford goal from almost inside the centre circle and Wexford looked done and dusted. Remarkably, Wexford were gifted a goal back just before half-time when Paul Keegan lofted the ball back to Sava who understandably didn’t want to catch it due to the back-pass rule, but he allowed Danny Furlong to poke it past him into the empty net and Wexford were almost back in the game at 3-1. However, immediately from the kick-off, Bray’s Dylan McGlade was allowed run unopposed from the left flank to shoot past Chambers at his near-post and Wexford were sunk again at 4-1 behind at half-time.

Second half was virtually a non-event as the destiny of the three points was well-settled although Sean Roche of Wexford kept running hard and dragged a shot wide of the Bray goal after a good run. It was 5-1 soon after as again Wexford couldn’t defend a Bray attack and Philly Gannon slotted home to widen the gap further between the teams. A good effort by Shane Griffin of Wexford from a free-kick forced Sava to get down low well to keep it out on ninety minutes and game finished soon after with a very comfortable win for Bray. Wexford will have to improve significantly from this performance to secure points in the remaining league matches. Triple subs about midway through the half for Wexford were Danny Doyle, Conor English and John Peare. About 200 or so at the game.
