Took in the cobh Douglas match last night. Great advertisement for senior football from both teams. The pace of the first half I have to say was unreal to watch. Wanderers tried to play it around but Douglas were very quick and strong closing down an were getting the better of the early exchanges. Left midfielder for Douglas was getting joy down his side but it was good play down the right for them an a cross only to be blocked at the last by wanderers midfielder to deny the goal. As Douglas intensity started to drop cobh started to dictate with there passing but it was balls over the top that was putting Douglas under serious pressure with former rambler mark Clifford looking out on his feet. Snap shots from Meade and geasely were saved by the keeper or went wide. Meade had the chance of the first half with a free header in the 6 yard straight at the keeper. Wanderers had to sub green at half time an they paid the price. Hall shot straight from the centre the keeper seemed disinterested as if the ball was goin over instead of a simple catch it rebounded off the bar and was eventually bundled in. It was all cobh for the remainder of the game with Douglas defend on there lead to the last impressively. Meade, stack, geasely all had great chances after breaking the defensive line but scuffed shots, last ditch defending, an save by the keeper kept the score 1 nil. Douglas looked very dangerous from set pieces an nearly made it 2 with greatbackpost header narrowly wide, wanderers looked very unorganised in that sense. Wanderers laid siege on the Douglas goal with Clifford looking out on his feet again resorted to kicking off the ball and handbags. The ref seemed to lose control of the game from then on an 2 good headed chances for wanderers weren't clinical again. Douglas held out for the win in front of around 100 in attendance. With regards to the trouble on the line I was over that side an there was nothing to do with unused subs. Only thing I seen was between the ref an the management. Great win for Douglas but wanderers deserved at least a point. I didn't see chubbs or davin o neill playing so I wouldn't write off wanderers just yet. Great way to spend a Wednesday night though
