After SheffieldUnited started four Ireland players last weekend, I checked if any team had started more Irish players in the Premier League: http://irish-abroad.appspot.com/Blog...15273729343737

In that article on the other thread, Klopp suggested Kelleher will need some U21/U23 games to get up to speed. That would probably indicate he'll go with Lonergan if Adrian is out, unfortunately.

    From Klopp's press conference today - https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/49369915

Klopp says Liverpool's third-choice keeper Andy Lonergan, 35, who was an unused substitute for the game in Istanbul which finished 2-2 after extra time, is "ready" to deputise for Adrian if the 32-year-old is ruled out.

Liverpool's first-choice keeper Alisson is sidelined with a calf injury.

"Andy Lonergan is in training with (Caoimhin) Kelleher and we have them if we have to make a decision," Klopp said of his two back-up options.

"Adrian was a week before, Lonergan has trained with us. We will see. Kelleher has potential but is not 100% yet."

Another poor weekend thus far from Irish perspective in UK. Of my players of interest:

Coleman and Duffy only Irish players starting in premier league. Lonergan ahead of Kelleher on bench. Obafemi on bench. Travers, Kilkenny, Connolly not on bench. Hourihane drops to bench as I had suspected. Idah not on bench, but does have back injury.

In Championship, Collins drops back to bench, stoke appear to be reverting to 4 at the back. Cullen starting for Charlton. Crowley starting. No Molumby in millwall squad. O’Shea on bench again. Knight back to derby bench. Browne remains out of favor at Preston, Maguire starts. Manning starts for qpr.

No Luca for Celtic. No Simon Power for Ross county, although he did have an injury last weekend so may not have recovered.

Is long just out of favour at Southampton or droped?

Judging by their fans forum all summer, he was woeful preseason. Not many fans had anything positive to say and looks like he didn’t impress last season as well. No word on injury, so presumably he’s out of favor, he’s 33 in January. With his style of play, relying on his pace with balls over the top, being in his 30s doesn’t bode well especially after the recurrent injuries. A dark horse for a move prior to sept 2, but not sure where he’d go with championship clubs not available. He’s not too appealing for good continental teams

Not a fan, but I see Scott Hogan scored for stoke.

Full 90 minutes for Coleman and Duffy. Late appearances for Collins and Knight. Nice to see. Ramsdale appears to have had a solid game, unfortunately for Travers, loan move in next two weeks please. No appearance by Hourihane or Obafemi. Huge howler by Adrian, and got away with another one in first half, time to give Caomhin a go and not a subaverage journeyman like Lonergan! Full 90 minutes for Cullen, Crowley (Birmingham really look terrible this season lost 3-0 today) and Manning. No goal for Maguire. No Parrott as expected vs Man City, no update on his injury either.

Heavily reliant on Sheff United again tomorrow to make our irish representation in prem league look respectable. Hopefully McCarthy will play for palace as well. The Burnley Irish don’t seem to be anywhere, neither Long or Dunne making bench, and no sign of Hendrick coming on, or Brady in squad (remains injured apparently)

Liam Kelly starting for Feyenoord now vs Utrecht. Will be interesting to see how he gets on.

The 4 irish played for Sheff United, Stevens looked good has improved since I last saw him; Egan is solid but unfortunately Keogh will start ahead, Robinson okay, McG missed a 5 yard sitter - just hasn’t impressed me but Mick loves him. McCarthy on for last 20 minutes, good to see, game has gone very scrappy so difficult for him to get into it

Full 90 for Kelly, 1-1 draw. Poor start by Stam, hopefully they’ll improve and he’ll stay in the job for Kelly’s sake. Let’s see if kelly stays in the team

Sheffield United fans like him as well - having see him on TV a few times last season and this, I can see why Mick likes him, but also why it might appear that he's not that impressive. I don't know if you remember TOWK on this forum, but he noted that McG almost looked lazy on the field - and he does seem to drift around the front, without aggressively showing for the ball. But when he does receive it, his distribution is generally tidy and regularly incisive - he is often involved in something important, which is why he has been given MOTM in two of our games this campaign and why he has been involved in three of our five goals: assist for Hendrick in Gibraltar; won the free-kick that Hourihane scored from against Georgia; and hit the shot that was deflected to open the scoring at home to Gibraltar.

He's a decent, if not outstanding, finisher - it was unfortunate that he missed the chance today, but in his defence the ball kicked up onto his shin/knee. I really hope he gets the chance to open his account for us in the Autumn qualifiers and maybe gets a couple more before the young guns establish themselves.

That's good news - we could do with him regaining the form he showed at Brentford, as he, like McGoldrick, could be an important stop-gap before the youngsters make the step up... he seems to do well for teams that play in red and white stripes

I agree that McG and Hogan are adequate stop gap measures in the McCarthy era, not a whole lot of immediate alternatives. But hopefully our youngsters will start flourishing in 2020 so can have proper international strikers in the fold

Molumby should start on Saturday. According to fans, has been very impressive since coming on at 75 minutes. Collins on at 45 minutes in a stoke loss. Again, hopefully the loss will prompt Collins start on Saturday.
