Marty, Not aware that they've played over here before, but I could easily be wrong.
Wexford put in a very decent performance as they kept AFC Wimbledon to a solitary goal in Ferrycarrig this afternoon. With nobody starting for Wexford today who had started against Cabinteely last night, Wexford began with Jason McGuire, Peter Higgins (guest but rumoured to be signing), Torek Adegoke, Dave Corish (guest), Lee Costello, Ryan Nolan, Danny Doyle, Thomas Croke, Sean Roche, Nika Arevadze and Caelin Rooney (guest). First half was reasonably even with the gulf being in pace around the pitch and particularly upper body strength. You don’t manage to shield the ball often against these players. Wimbledon, however, didn’t really settle on the ball very much and found it hard to create chances as a result. First chance fell to Wimbledon with a shot on twenty minutes but it went just over the Wexford bar. Jason McGuire, who was excellent between the posts for Wexford, then made a catch from a Wimbledon corner look easy. Dave Corish next blocked a good Wimbledon chance for a corner and, from that corner, Wimbledon drilled a shot a foot or two over the Wexford bar. 0-0 at half-time.
Wimbledon changed their entire XI at half-time while Wexford brought on Andy Farrell, Liam Berry, Eric Molloy (guest), Kyle Doherty, and I think Colm Feeney in goal. Wimbledon had a fresh air in front of goal off a good cross from the left early on and Wexford’s keeper, Jason McGuire, pulled off a point blank save from a Wimbledon corner. The goal came from another Wimbledon corner with Tom Wood heading home again showing the different in physical strength between the two sides. Wexford also won a few corners during this half, but couldn’t create anything against a more powerful side in the air, although Eric Molloy managed to have a shot blocked while well-placed just outside the Wimbledon area. A decent chance was missed by Wimbledon right at the end as Wexford looked to tire against their fitter opponents. The two guests, Dave Corish and Caelin Rooney, looked very handy and hopefully Wexford will manage to sign them while former player, Eric Molloy, would be welcome back at any time. 1-0 to Wimbledon at the end with about 200 at the game.
