Grant on bench for Sheffield wed . Under 19 for us this season
Conor Grant on the bench for Wednesday. Jimmy Dunne is on the bench for Burnley...
3 quality peno saves from travers
Thomas O'Connor signed for Gillingham on loan until January: https://www.gillinghamfootballclub.c.../oconnor-loan/
Must be why he missed their U23 and league cup games this week. Good move for him
Amazing the difference a year (or even a few months) makes - last season if we saw certain players on an U23 teamsheet and scoring, we were thinking "that's great progress that lad is making". Now if they show up on a Friday night, the reaction is "damn, I guess he won't be in the first team this week". With that in mind, there was no Connolly, Knight or Parrott in their respective teams tonight
Idah, on the other hand, has been sent back to the U23s and was credited with an assist: https://www.premierleague.com/match/...-middlesbrough
There were a couple of Irish scorers, however
Anthony Scully scored for West Ham in their draw with Man United. Coventry and O'Connor both played: https://www.premierleague.com/match/...utd-v-west-ham
Yassine En-Neyah scored a late penalty in Forest's 4-1 win over Cardiff: https://twitter.com/NFFCAcademy/stat...25857155604480
Harry Charsley seems to be hanging on to his underage career for dear life - got a goal in Everton's 8-2 thrashing of Southampton, with Aaron O'Driscoll and Kameron Ledwidge being on the wrong end of it. 17-year-old Roland Idowu got promoted to Southampton's U23s and played the last 15 minutes: https://www.premierleague.com/match/...-v-southampton
Tyriek Wright was credited with an assist for Villa against Sunderland: https://www.premierleague.com/match/...-v-aston-villa
I see ciarain Dunne who played for us underage while at Falkirk is in sunderlands 23s now. Overage for the 19s unfortunately
Best place for this for now? Lee O’Connor on the verge of a permanent move to Celtic.

Interesting enough. There appears to be a trend with Connell, Afolabi and O'Connor all joining this summer. Anything to do with Duffer? Hopefully they start getting minutes this season but it is hard to envisage Lennon starting 3 19 year olds at once, not to mind their own academy products at Celtic.
Frustrating to see another of our better young players heading to the Celtic reserves. Likely that Duff is involved in bringing them up here. Even worse is that Celtic are also signing an 18 year old right back from Man City tonight who is younger and probably a bit more highly rated than O'Connor.
Celtic just bringing in these lads on the cheap hoping they might strike the jackpot with one and stumble onto the next Kieran Tierney.
These aren't 15/16 year olds just starting out. At the age O'Connor, Afolabi and Connell are at you'd be hoping they'd be going somewhere where there's a clear route to first team football. Similar to what Jason Knight has at Derby or Collins has at Stoke. I don't really see any similar strategy for these lads at Celtic.
It will be interesting to see how many first team starts they get between them this season. And with no development league there's no way for them to get consistent game time if they're not in the first team.

Why do you say Frimpong is more highly rated? O'Connor played far more under 23 football last season.
O'Connor may not be going as a right back. He is very versatile and probably doesn't know his best position yet.
Don't think there has been an official announcement yet but he's up there: https://twitter.com/laylaykee/status...386934785?s=19
While Lennon’s seeming reluctance to play young players is a concern I’d also add there’s no conspiracy here. If these guys light it up in youth matches/friendlies/training/on loan then Lennon will use them. It’s up to these guys to force the issue.
