Unhappy Holt stuns City with shock 'quit' decision

Holt stuns City with shock 'quit' decision

    25th April '05

DUBLIN CITY have been rocked by the news that top goalscorer Michael Holt has returned to England, citing personal reasons for the decision.

Holt had been in impressive for the Vikings and was the club's leading goalscorer with four goals this season.

The former St Patrick's Athletic and Derry City striker was on the mark yesterday netting City's opening strike with a majestic turn and finish from outside the penalty area, but after the game he informed manager Dermot Keely of the decision which was with immediate effect.

"It's a big blow," said Keely. "He's left as a result of domestic circumstances and while we're understanding of his situation, you can appreciate that, we're saddened to lose a player of his calibre. He was doing very well for us and his confidence was high, but he was honest about the situation and dealt with me in a very forthright manner.

"We'll carry on as we have to. We have many players fighting for positions and we'll keep an eye on the situation but all we can do is to wish him the best."
