    Womens Champions League 2019

UEFA have just announced the host countries for the qualifying groups and Wexford, a third seeded team, will be heading to one of Holland, Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia, Bosnia or Slovenia. They can't be going to Slovakia, Belgium, Montenegro or Estonia as they also have teams which are seeded at three. Draw takes place on 21 June.

Wexford have to travel to Lithuania as the host country where Gintra of that country will be the top seeds. The mini-group is made of teams from Albania and Malta which, on paper, doesn't seem so bad. Wexford have beaten Gintra in a previous Champions League campaign.

Wexford will be based in Kaunas (Lithuania) for this UEFA group with two matches in Alytus and the final match in Marijampole. The two grounds seem to be about 40 miles away from Kaunas, however, which looks a bit odd.

For anyone interested, there will be a stream of Wexford's match this afternoon against Gintra of Lithuania on the Facebook Gintra Universitetas page starting at 4pm Irish time. Gintra have a number of professionals playing with them but the word from Lithuania is that Wexford are not without a chance. Wexford need a win to have a chance of progressing in the competition. Wexford's last opponents, Vllaznia of Albania, signed four Americans just before the tournament started (including Amanda Doyle from Austin State Univ. who scored two goals) so it looks like we're being outspent by everyone at this stage!

Full-time Wexford 2, Gintra 1. Lauren Kelly with the winner. Apparently not good enough to enable us to progress, but great performance to beat the top seeds.

Watched the last 20 minutes or so and was wondering whether they knew they had to win by 2 goals or more to stay in the race. Anyway, not a bad result.

Sideways, I'm pretty certain they did know. Could have nicked a third, but that's the way it goes.
