Cech
Ferreira Terry Campbell Heinza
Robben Gerrard Lampard Downing
Henry Johnson
Ferdinand, Wright-Philips, Gerard and Robben did not play a full season, not their fault I know (apart from Ferdinand) but how do they qualify for team of the season?Originally Posted by 4tothefloor
I would have thought consistent good performers would be more suitable candidates. No arguement with Terry, Lampard, Cech, Henry, Johnson but what about Jamie Carragher, Kenny Cunningham and IMHO the most important player in the Chelsea team, Claude Makelele!
Finally, if Gary Neville is the best right back in the Premiership then there must be some serious ar**holes playing right back in the other teams!

Cech
Ferreira Terry Campbell Heinza
Robben Gerrard Lampard Downing
Henry Johnson
Assume this is Sol! I thought he has only played 14/15 games in the league this season or have I missed something. If so, he could not possibly be in a team of the season.Originally Posted by pete

Robben's in it. They both played the exact same amount of minutes this season.Originally Posted by Superhoops
From what I've seen (i.e. highlights and 2 or 3 live games) I'd go with:
Cech
Ferreira Carvalho Terry Heinze
W-Phillips Alonso Makelele Duff
Johnson Defoe
Same applies to Robben and Gerrard, as posted earlier.Originally Posted by eirebhoy

I don't like picking the best XI.
Better to have worst Xi
I don't really watch full live EP matches so just based on highlights.
I really do think Downing is due his place as is in double figures for assists alone.
Ferdinard is over-rated & over-hyped plus he is protected by the defensive nature of his team this season.
That's not the team I picked. I picked Carragher in my team, so don't know why you're quoting me?Originally Posted by Superhoops
I would have Xabi Alonso in that side as well, but he's been out for a while. IMO, he pi$ses on every other midfielder in the premiership, from a great height. The best passer of a football in the world, bar none.
stupid statement...penalty doesnt automatically mean goal. there is still the little matter of taking it and put the ball in the net. i was over last week and saw johnson play...the man is a constant threat with fierce pace.Originally Posted by anto1208
most of the penalty decisions would nearly have resulted in goals anyway if the penalty had not been given.
i repeat again
PENALTY DOES NOT EQUAL GOAL
Can't believe Robert Pires wasn't included - 30 plus games this season for a 31 year old as well as the top scoring midfielder in the league with 11 and 2 assists - he's even got more goals than world class strikers Rooney and Drogba!

I think the PFA stuff gets voted for around Christmas time, which would make some sense in the team that was selected.
Stupid really but i thinks thats how it goes.

Your having a laff right - more over rated than Saha, Baros, Drogba, Kewell etc.....What do you base your judgement on?Originally Posted by Tuff Paddy
I assume it's not on facts like his record number of assists in 2002 and his annual goal totals that are consistantly above any midfielder in the league.
19 goals and 10 assists in all competitions last season with
14 goals in all competitions so far this season with 5 games remanining which is THE top midfielder strike rate in the league.
true, goals don't make a player great but it's the consistant records of goals combined with his assists and number of games he plays that's impressive with Pires and unmatched by any midfielder in the league in that context.
Yes he can't tackle and he's the ONLY player in the league who dives (still see the FA haven't recinded the yellow card in the FA Cup game against Bolton when he WAS fouled) and he rarely heads the ball ( although I was priviliged to see him do it twice on Monday night). I suppose the defining factor is that Duff, Robben, Ronaldo, and the likes don't dive.....................ahem.........

My team would have been:
cech
hibbert gallas terry heinze
S.W. Phillips makelele lampard Duffers
henry johnson <-- (despite his diving)
There probably is a bit of favourtism towards my beloved chelsea but you cant complain too much with the ones in it!!![]()

After watching tonights match I'm pretty certain that if Duff was in Robben's shoes* and Robben was in Duff's shoes**, Duff would be in the team of the year and not Robben.
*Robbens Shoes - Out injured at the start of the season. Out injured since the new year.
**Duff's Shoes - Played every game (except S****horpe) since September.
The reason I say this is that Robben has (1) never played well against a top team for Chelsea and (2) needs Duff on the pitch to be at his best. If Duff was out injured since the new year and Robben was playing I don't think we would be seeing Robben playing half as well as he does with Duff. I think Duff would then be the player that Chelsea sorely miss and the player that turned their 1-0's into 4-0's.
BTW - Mourinho said the following in his post match conference:
Mourinho: "They fought very well. They defended very well but they lost Xabi Alonso for the next game at Anfield. They'll have to cope without him just like we've had to cope without Duff."
The only time he mentioned Robben's injury was when he was asked about it and even then he would say Chelsea are not a one man team.![]()

I know a few odd choices but for me thats teh ebst players i think ive seen in their positions all season in terms fo their circumstances and they way theyve played. I'e jasskelainan has been great esp in a team who lack resources in terms of money.
I honestly think boa morte deserves his inclusion to, he has turned form alughable arsenal reject, to top calss striker under chris coleman, most improved player ive seen this season.
illiteracy and alphabet soup hmm?
Surely Fabregas had an outstanding impact this season. I don't know if C.Ronaldo and BoaMorte deserve a place much more than Lampard and Johnson...Originally Posted by Thomo
