    WYW v Limerick

Wexford Youths Women had a relatively comfortable passage to the League Cup final in Ferrycarrig this afternoon as they knocked five past Limerick who didn’t threaten greatly other than a couple of half-chances through the hard-working Sophie Liston. Wexford started with Sophie, Nicola, Lolly, Lauren, Doireann, McKenna, Kylie, Edel, Aisling, Vanessa and Rianna. Wexford owned the ball for the first quarter hour without really threatening the Limerick goal. However,on 17 minutes, the first decent ball fell to the feet of Rianna Jarrett inside the Limerick area, and she turned her marker before giving Connolly no chance in the Limerick goal for 1-0 to Wexford. First Limerick effort on goal came on 22 minutes when Sylvia Gee knocked a long-ranger a yard over. Edel Kennedy for Wexford then had an effort a yard wide when, on the half-hour mark, Rianna turned provider when she put a through-ball into the gap for Edel Kennedy to finish and it was 2-0. Limerick’s best chance came immediately after this goal when a free ended up at the far post, but the Limerick attacker couldn’t make contact with her head to leave it at 2-0 at the break.

When Wexford could put the proper weight on a through-ball, it could pay dividends, and Vanessa Ogbonna profited on 18 minutes of the second half to put Wexford’s third on the board. With 15 minutes to go, McKenna Davidson had to be helped off after getting a crack on the ankle and was replaced by Clionadh Ni She. Earlier subs for Wexford had been Becky Cassin and Blessing Kingsley. Another good through ball then allowed Blessing Kingsley to finish for 4-0 before Wexford’s Aisling Frawley managed to hit the target when standing on the Limerick goal-line for 5-0. The Limerick keeper seemed to pick up an injury from the final Wexford goal so hopefully the injured players from each side can recover quickly. Wexford now meet Shelbourne in the League Cup final.
