    North End v Moyne

Deciding game in Wexford League tonight with Moyne of Enniscorthy needing only a point to win the league for the first time and North End needing two wins from tonight and their final game to pinch the title. As expected, game was fairly cagey with chances at a premium. On five minutes NE’s Adam Beary had a free just over the Moyne bar and then, on nine minutes, Robin Dempsey of NE had a good shout for a peno as he was bundled over from behind in the Moyne box but a pretty ropey referee didn’t give it. Moyne then put a free header from a free just wide and NE’s Gary Delaney headed over from a corner when he needed to direct the ball downwards. A good Moyne chance was then wasted to leave the score at 0-0 at the break with NE not having really stretched the Moyne defence.

Second half continued in the same manner until, with about ten minutes to go, NE turned on the burners to get the decisive goal. Adam Beary of NE was left free at the far post but volleyed over with his left and then Paul Murphy (Kilmore) headed over with only Pa Doyle in the Moyne goal to beat. An instinctive Pa Doyle save then kept the Moyne goal intact and whistle sounded shortly afterwards with Moyne celebrating their first league title and the referee flashing yellow cards like confetti at a good number of the NE team. Best for NE were Spot Murphy, Gary Delaney and Adam Beary while John Peare, Anto Russell, Pa Doyle and James Peare impressed for Moyne, the new Wexford league champions.

Was at this match. The save at the end by Moyne's keeper was such a crucial one. Draw was probably the fairest result. I thought at one stage in the second half that Moyne were going to overrun North End completely as North End looked really tired but North End made some subs which gave them a new leash of life. The North End 13 looked useful when he came in, sent in some good crosses, Spot Murphy looks really out of shape even for local football level. Good crowd at the match must have been around 300 or so.
