    dream squad

From Goal via St Pats twitter

    https://twitter.com/stpatsfc/status/1123338666427002881

Make a 23-man squad from player who have played for the thr team you support.

    - Must include three goalkeepers
    - Must be player from the time you've been a supporter
    - Players are based on their time at your club (e.g. Chelsea fans don't get Man City Kevin DeBruyne)
    Pats added name a captain

Interesting question! Going to go back to 98, but weighted towards more recent teams. I'm sure I've forgotten someone obvious, though I've left out two senior internationals (Stevens and Sammon). Struggled for any real balance too; loads of centre-mids and centre-backs, but not so much on the wings or at full-back

GK - Barry Ryan, Niall Corbet, Darren Quigley
DF - Ian Bermingham, Liam Scales, Andy Boyle, Clive Delaney, Pat Sullivan, Alan Mahon, Mark Langtry
MF - Tony McDonnell (c), Robbie Benson, Ronan Finn, Ciarán Martyn, Gary Dicker, Simon Power, John Martin, Conan Byrne
FW - Dave McMillan, Ciarán Kilduff, Georgie Kelly, Willie Doyle, Ryan Swan

    Since 1999-00

Goalkeepers: Dean Delany, Steve Williams, Tony O'Dowd
Defenders: Owen Heary (C), Tony McCarthy, Sean Dillon, Colin Hawkins, Pat Scully, Dave Campbell, Kevin Doherty, Dave Rogers
Midfielders: Tony Sheridan, Wes Hoolahan, Stuart Byrne, Joseph Ndo, Pat Fenlon, Ollie Cahill, David McGill, Mark Rutherford
Forwards: Stephen Geoghegan, Jason Byrne, Glen Crowe, Philly Hughes

I was very fortunate to watch some serious all-time talent in those first number of seasons, could easily have had a 35 man squad. Definitely players in our First Division era have made big impression upon me too, Mark Rutherford got in my list for his performances tearing down the wing at 36 during his farewell season in 2008

Take the number of points harps will finish this season with, multiply by number of times they've beaten Derry city. Subtract that answer from 23, take the number of digits in that result and...

...SHOVE EM WHERE THE SUN DON'T SHINE 😛

Or you could, you know, suggest a squad. Just list it as Derry city 'b'

    A, O'Neill. P, Cherrie, G, Rogers
    S Gannon, A, Boyle, J, Coll, M, Lawlor, j, Malone, B Gartland, D, Massey
    M, Duffy, B, Byrne, T, McNulty, R, Towell, S, O'Donnell, C, Shields, G,Lawless D Horgan B, Keogh
    P, Hoban, D. McMillan, T Eviston, D. Gorman

Any number of captains there but purely on length of service Martin Lawlor!

Players that could technically be involved Jason Byrne, Declan O'Brien, G Bolger, S Geoghan, P Doolin. C. Hawkins, G O'Callaghan, Paul Byrne past their prime when at Oriel or not interested.

Honourable mentions - Donal Broughan, John White, John Cleary, Martin Murray, Stephen McGuinness, Sean Maguire, James Keady, Ray Campbell, Stephen Napier, Keith Long, Mick Doohan, Stephen Kelly, Peter and Joe Hanrahan, Tony Loughlin, Jim Gannon, G Haylock, Ronan finn. Ciaran Kavanagh. Liam Dunne, Keith Ward. Paul Curran.

By season end Sean Murray, Robbie Benson, Patrick McEleney and Dan Kelly could be first choices.

The one player that I would have given any amount of body parts to see in Lilywhite colours is Pat McCourt!

Trying to do a worst 11 would be an impossible and depressing task....

Mid: Noel Mernagh, Greg Bolger, Paul Osam, Eddie Gormley, Martin Russell, Charles Mbazi Livingston, Keith Fahey, John Tracey, Killian Brennan

Decent 23, but I'd shoehorn Dessie Baker in there. Richie, too, maybe. Alan Moore? Hard to see who to leave out for them though.
Hello, hello? What's going on? What's all this shouting, we'll have no trouble here!

I've gone for Rovers in the Tallaght era. Pretty much a mix of the O'Neill team and the current team. A couple in there more for cult status than actual performances. Looking back, there was some seriously weak squads. Bazunu in there for the sheer raw talent he showed in his short spell.

Alan Mannus, Barry Murphy, Gavin Bazunu
Enda Stevens, Dan Murray, Craig Sives, Aidan Price, Pat Sullivan, Simon Madden, Joey O’Brien, Pat Flynn
Ronan Finn, Stephen O’Donnell, Gary McCabe, Trevor Clarke, Jack Byrne, Sean Kavanagh, Stephen Rice, James Chambers,
Dessie Baker, Gary Twigg, Padraig Amond, Graham Burke

Karl Sheppard probably unlucky not to get in, McEneff looks like he'll move ahead of some of the other midfielders but I haven't seen enough, Shane Robinson might be unlucky too.

Definitely a few better players I haven't picked, McKenna,Vaudequin and McCourt being 3, couple have got in for longevity and cult hero status for me, ie Funston wouldn't be on the same planet as McCourt but I'm never picking Paddy McCourt over a legend like Mickey Funston in my Harps team!

    Real off season stuff this!

GK: Mark McLean, Nick Broujos, Gary Rogers
Def: Declan Boyle, Jason McGuinness, Gavin Peers, Gavin Dykes, Martin McDonnell, Alan Keane
Mid: Johnny Kenny, Will Hastie, TonyFagan (c), Harry McLoughlin, Joseph NDo, Richie Ryan, Rommy Boco, Faz Kudozovic
For: Raf Cretaro, Ski McGee, Eddie Annand, Danny North, Padraic Moran, Mark Quigley.
Obvious omission Coleman and it seems laughable to have a player as limited as Dykes in there instead, but in terms of influence I had to opt for others in defence.

Really it could just be a Stephen Kenny era squad, and in terms of fitness, organisation and preparation they’d be miles ahead of what went before. But here’s mine, going back to the early 90s

Steve Williams, Alan O'Neill, Eddie Van Boxtel
Sean Gannon, Dane Massey, Andy Boyle, Brian Gartland, Mick Doohan, James Coll, Martin Lawlor
Barry Kehoe, Tom McNulty, Daryl Horgan, Chris Shields, Stephen O’Donnell, Gino Lawless, Richie Towell, Michael Duffy, Brian Byrne
Patrick Hoban, Dessie Gorman, Joe Hanrahan, David McMillan

Sean Hoare and Robbie Benson knocking on the door, also potentially Murray, McGrath. Honourable mentions for Gary Rogers, Patrick McEleney, Stephen McGuinness, James Keddy, Stephen Napier, Peter Hanrahan, Garry Haylock, Paul Marney, Philly Hughes, David Hoey, David Crawley, Tony Cousins, Terry Eviston, Ronnie Murphy, Roddy Collins

I knew you wern't serious when you excluded Dermot Keely

Eddie Van Boxtel for goals, but no sign of Richie Blackmore or Gary Rogers?

Honourable mention for Roddy Collins, but no Hilary Carlyle, Cathal Muckian, Terry Flanagan, Martin Reilly or Terry Eviston

    and what about Baba Isaka?

Keely, Blackmore, Carlyle, Muckian and T Flanagan before my time. Eviston is in the honourable mentions list. The Boxer was tongue in cheek really, but it's my fun, completely unimportant, non-scientific off the top of my head squad, so why not suggest your own?

You're welcome to have Baba for your squad Ez!

I'm working on it, but struggling whether to make Baba Osaka or Elden de Getrouwe captain. Should Mental Mickey be in the squad. Harpal Singh or Tony Cavanagh?

    So many hard choices

Sean Prunty should be in there for Wes Byrne I reckon. Hard to disagree too much with the rest, though Pip Keogh is an interesting one. I liked him but not everyone did.
Upwards to the vanguard where the pressure is too high.
