But to each their own and all
probably has more to do with the fact i never got around to getting the first album on cd. The old cassettes are just gathering dust. Shame there is no easy way to convert them all.

Takes a Nation of Millions to hold Us Back - Public Enemy
The Stone Roses -The Stone Roses
If I Should Fall From Grace With God - The Pogues
Psychocandy - Jesus and Mary Chain
Hatful of Hollow - The Smiths
Isn't Anything - My Bloody Valentine
    OK Computer - Radiohead
Three Feet High and Rising - De La Soul
    The Clash - The Clash
Inflamable Material - Stiff Little Fingers

Thats in no particular order. Notice that despite the fact that I disagree with some of the choices, all in all there's some very good musical taste on the board.

    Thumbs up

Different to Loveless. Maybe a bit more like Sonic Youth! Can't remember the last time I saw it for sale. One of those albums to hunt down but really worth it. Couldn't reccommend it highly enough.

After looking through the threads here some really good stuff being chosen. Even listened to a few I left out that others have chosen and I had forgotten.
So far The Clash, The Smiths, My Bloody Valentine, Whipping Boy, Stone Roses seem to coming out on top.

Yeah, pretty much as Rebs23 said. Loveless is alot more experimental and I think is more miss than hit (there are a few gems on the album though) Infamously almost sent Creation bankrupt as it took so long to make and cost so much. There is an earlier album as well that isn't bad called 'Ecstacy and Wine' also which has the absolute cracker 'Strawberry Wine' on it but outside my sisters record collection I haven't seen that in years either.

BTW have noticed 'Isn't Anything' in the sales in HMV in Ingerland so you may strike lucky in Ireland in one of there stores.

Also in a similar vein I can never really see what the fascination is with choosing London Calling ahead of The Clash?

When I was choosing my ten I found it very hard to choose between the two, I considered putting both in but didn't for the sake of variety. For me maybe it's the different styles of London Calling that would give it the edge. Then again if you asked me tomorrow I'd probably end up changing my mind again and picking Sandinista.

Can't agree with you there, Pat, about the more miss than hit.
Yes, there are some outstanding tracks on it, and some not-so-strong-on-their-own tracks, but it's one of thase albums I have to listen to straight through, and take as a whole.
That's not to say I'm not a fan of 'isn't anything'. (which BTW is on amazon)

There are some great albums mentioned here, though. Made me want to go home and dig out some Grant Lee Buffalo, or Red House Painters. Or Jeff Buckley. Or Charlatans (Some friendly almost made it)

I just can't get on with it, I'll admit that there are some cracking tracks on it however it just has too much ethereal noise to get through and so I find it difficult to take as and whole. I'll give it another try but my copy is in Manchester and I'm in London and my record player is broken. so it may be some time before I can agree or disagree with you.

Think Glider was released in or around 1990/1 actually seen a copy in Camden Record and Tape exchange a couple of weeks ago but didn't buy due to a significant lack of funds!

Didn't The Charlatans dislike Some Friendly and were pretty much pressurised into releasing it quickly on the back of the success of 'The Only One I Know'? 'Sprogstan (sp?) Green' on that album is some track.

The Good Son, I know what you mean about the different styles of The Clash and Londons Calling. Its just something about The Clash (particularly White man In Hammersmith Palace and I fought the Law that really grab me.)

By the way I'm taking out Bummed and putting in OK Computer - Radiohead

OK that means it's the US import of The Clash, the original hadn't White Man or I Fought The Law on it, you're talking about which makes it an even tougher choice to make, as any album with White Man on it is very hard to omit from a top 10
