Keely: The Cork fans who chanted 'Murphy out' are morons

Shelbourne manager Dermot Keely has slammed those supporters who booed Cork City off the pitch on Sunday.
Shels recorded a priceless 1-0 victory at Turner's Cross and a section of the dwindling home support chanted that they wanted manager Liam Murphy to be sacked afterwards in response to another disappointing result.

After the game, the City boss berated Shelbourne's conservative tactics, but Keely admitted in his column in the Irish Sun that he felt some sympathy for the Cork man.

Keely said: "The Cork fans who chanted 'Murphy out' are morons. In 38 League games under him, they have won 20, drawn nine and lost nine. Considering the state they were in before he took over, that's not bad going."

The Dubliner added, however, that he would not apologise the Shels' defensive tactics after John Burns scored the game's only goal early in the second half.

He added: "I admit once we got the goal we contented ourselve with that. We were never in any trouble at the back so there was no need to go in a desperate search for a second goal.

"But I will not apologise for protecting a lead. We have entertained people all year but now it's time to win the League."
