    WYW v Kilkenny

Hugely improved performance by WYW as they put Kilkenny to the sword in Ferrycarrig tonight but Kilkenny weren’t helped by losing three players through injury before the break which meant that their shape had gone by half-time. Wexford’s improved performance was assisted by the return of Aisling Frawley and Edel Kennedy as manager, Tom Elmes, started with Maeve, Ciara, Nicola, Lolly, Doireann, McKenna, Kylie, Edel, Aisling, Rianna and with Vanessa up front. Wexford started with far more intent than last week and put pressure on the KK goal from the start. Vanessa Ogbonna and Rianna Jarrett went close before a corner by Doireann Fahey found Rianna Jarrett with a clean header on 12 minutes and it was 1-0 to Wexford. The hard-working Carla McManus then had KK’s only decent chance of the game when she tried to lob Maeve Williams in the Wexford goal, but it was with the wind and flew over the Wexford bar. McKenna Davidson then was sent free down the right for Wexford and her shot went in off the KK post for 2-0. It was 3-0 when the KK defence opened up for Kylie Murphy to drive the ball home to give Davies in the KK goal no chance. Kylie then followed this with a tap-in and Wexford were out of sight by half-time with KK having used all three subs.

The whole of the second half was virtually played in the Kilkenny half and Wexford increased their lead with two more from Rianna Jarrett, one a penalty, and then a brace also from Vanessa Ogbonna to leave the score at 8-0 at full-time. Subs used in the second half by Wexford were Aoife Slattery, Becky Cassin and Lauren Kelly. Wexford therefore go on to the WNL League Cup semi-final.
