Bohs v PAOK tonight at 7:30
Don't know if much of a crowd expected?
1,227 there tonight. Good crowd for it.
https://kesslereffect.bandcamp.com/album/kepler - New music. It's not that bad.
Bohs missed a peno in a 1-1 draw. Another excellent result in the competition. Really emphasises that the LoI goes badly wrong after underage - probably because it's a part-time league, even for Rovers/Dundalk (who are playing p/t opponents)
Top class football match tonight.Bohs missed a Peno .PAOK keeper made three quality saves to earn a draw for them.
When's the second leg?
23rd October
Bohs after going 1-0 down in Greece with 50 minutes gone.
2-1 down on aggregate
Well done to the young Bohs lads, certainly far from being off the level. I hate that it is another 'almost' story of LoI in Europe to add to the list mind. I'm not sure that I get the structure fully but senior clubs that make CL group stages also have their youth teams qualify? What if a top club's youth side is muck in a particular year?! It wouldnt make much difference to the big leagues but there should be some significant reward for a club for having their youth teams qualify and progress - maybe some addition to a clubs overall co-efficient, or a decent amount of money awarded (that is to be ringfenced for youth development). It would 'encourage' the likes of DFC ownership to look more at the youth setup for example!? Maybe a bit out there in thinking or how the likes could be worked but to help minimise the horse trading aspect of youth development, somehow rewarding a club for youth progresion to a senior team should be a consideration!? But that'd be a more local issue than UEFA i'd think.
How much money would bohs get for European u19 match? Do they just cover travel costs or is there prize money?
Just travel costs.
I think UCD flew into Molde on the morning of the game in 2017 to keep costs down
So it promotes short term gain and not consider the future development of players. Grand so if in a big league but creates a burden for small clubs. Considering the money floating around the game a bit more than expenses should be paid. It's not as if there are hundreds of elite youth teams that will be participating considering the setup! It's bordering on unethical to to have to fly a team in to Norway, play a game, fly out asap and recover. Greece is no city hopper flight either!
I think Bohs went out the day before but yep, cost is a big factor. didn't see the game but apparently we gave it a decent 'go', they are a decent side but was very difficult when we didn't get a lead at home (THAT peno !!!).No complaints but a little 'if only'.
Given our player turnover at senior level and our limited resources we have taken the underage set up very seriously and, allied to our link up with Kevin's (both players and contacts) we have unearthed some very, very good young players.
