why are cork playing the winners of that tie? I thought they were in the same round as st pats and shamrock rovers?
Gary Cronin is he the right man to manage Longford Town?
They are though?
Yeah, that's a preliminary tie with the winners facing CCFC.
Not the best draw as I don’t give us a chance. It looks handy enough to get to as Stockholm has three airports, one in the city two in the sticks.
Absolutely, that was one we wanted to avoid, would have been by far the worst of those in the pot. I wouldn't understimating Riga one bit,I heard they have improved a fair but, but looekd at their league table, joint tip after 15 games, but have lost 4, we should have enough to get through really. That will put us into EL r2, the journey will prob stop there in terms of the CL, as that will be up against likes of Celtic, Copehagen, Zagreb, Maribor etc would be to strong, but that would parachute us into EL r3, and thats only one round away from the play off.
Need to beat Riga first of course.
Tough for the rest, maybe Rovers have the best chance, usually you would always fancy an Irish side over a Lux side (have they ever beaten us ? for DFC we played them twice, 3 wins, 1 draw), this mob that Cork drew beat Rangers recently, will be no mugs.
#DundalkFC - First Irish club to win an away game in Europe (1963), first Irish club to win points in a group stage in Europe (2016).
Our game got switched to home first , away second.
Groups for tomorrows draw
Dundalk:
FC København (DEN)
FC BATE Borisov (BLR) or GKS Piast Gliwice (POL)
FC Astana (KAZ) or CFR 1907 Cluj (ROU)
Ferencvárosi TC (HUN) or PFC Ludogorets 1945 (BUL)
FK Partizani (ALB) or Qarabağ FK (AZE)
Rovers:
FK Mladá Boleslav (CZE)
Fotbal Club FCSB (ROU) or FC Milsami Orhei (MDA)
FK Kauno Žalgiris (LTU) or Apollon Limassol FC (CYP)
RC Strasbourg (FRA)
AZ Alkmaar (NED)
FK Radnik Bijeljina (BIH) or FC Spartak Trnava (SVK)
Pats:
FC Dinamo Minsk (BLR) or FK Liepaja (LVA)
RCD Espanyol (ESP)
KF Laçi (ALB) or Hapoel Beer-Sheva FC (ISR)
Atromitos FC (GRE)
FC Arsenal Tula (RUS)
Cork:
NK Osijek (CRO)
FC Prishtina (KOS) or St Joseph's FC (GIB) or Rangers FC (SCO)
AS Roma (ITA)
Gzira United FC (MLT) or HNK Hajduk Split (CRO)
FC Luzern (SUI)
Is that Dundalk pool the worst any LoI club has ever had?
Incredible harsh on dundalk that.
Rangers would be great fun if we managed to get through. Roma would be amazing. Obviously not from a progression point of view.
If Dundalk have any designs on reaching group stages again, that's the type of quality of side that has to be overcome. It shows up how difficult the task actually is.
Dundalk: its still better than the other group I think. FK Partizani (ALB) or Qarabağ FK (AZE) would be the tie to draw. If the second leg is at home then anything can happen in a game like that. Some of those other teams wouldn't be great travellers Id say. Probably will get BATE again though.
Rovers: If they somehow get past Brann, FK Radnik Bijeljina (BIH) or FC Spartak Trnava (SVK) the tie to get. Strasbourg wouldn't be too bad, its only up the road for me.
Pats: If they get past the Swedes, not a bad draw really, best they could have hoped for, some very beatable teams there......FC Dinamo Minsk (BLR) or FK Liepaja (LVA)would be my pick.
Cork City: Tough enough, but I have been saying all month that Cork would get Lucerne, to annoy my city mate who used to live here, would be perfect chance to meet up again!
(Edit: oh yeah Basel are in it today...........get PSV then its the europa for definite)

https://kesslereffect.bandcamp.com/album/kepler - New music. It's not that bad.
I think people are losing sight of the progress route, CL r2 (if we get there) was probably always going to be twice as hard as the first round, but the pot looks worse than I even feared. I would expect Dundalk to get past Riga, exit on the next round, then have a better chance in EL R3, that’s one round before the play off.
That will obviously all change if we don't get past Riga, then its into EL R2 and BATE / Polish side are lurking.
