    Dave Barry verdict on Yesterday

I was sitting in the Enclosure yesterday with Dave behind me. He kept saying the same as my brother and myself. "Would somebody put their foot on the ball and look up". Has Gunther scary the Sh*t out of guys that they are afraid to look up and pick out a pass. This long ball stuff is killing us. If I wanted to watch the ball 60 feet in the air I can go to a GAA match. Let's get back to playing ball. Dave Barry looked as ****ed off as the rest of us yesterday. Is there anybody out there who can release us from long ball hell.

I wonder is Dave Barry one of "those people" who "doesn't understand football" according to Liam Murphy?

Has Gunther scary the Sh*t out of guys that they are afraid to look up and pick out a pass?
It's like the Jack Charlton days with Ireland. There were good footballers being asked to kick the ball as far forward as possible and go against all they were thought.

It's a shame to see the likes of Hoggie, Carey, Buckley, Bennett hoofing the ball up to Cahill and Morley. IMO Liam Murphy has set CPOB back about two years in his development. He is not playing well lately and it's down to Murphy putting so much presure on him and asking to run around like a hare chasing hoofed balls.

Hoofing never really worked for anyone, and it ain't working for City. The word "variety" comes to mind when I think where they should be aiming.

You can punt balls at defenders all day but if there is the possibility that you'll try something different once in awhile, they might be a little more worried...

ah Niamh your talking nonsense girl.. ..fans know nothing about football...Liam has his UEFA coaching badge and he knows best.

1 plan ..ie the Hoof plan is the way forward and we should be supporting Liam as loyal muppet fans that we should be, or worse still that he thinks we are, as he kills our club and destroys the young players confidence..

    well done Liam..

Dave was certainly a man who understood football. I'd love to see him come back.

As for dream of Gerry McCabe returning, it looks like thats on hold for a while as he has just signed a five year contract as Hib's assistant.

    come on Murphy!
the man is almost trying to get rid of supporters with his comments, he should be more aware whats happening on the pitch and taking more control over our style of play than anything else.
hes no manager thats for sure and the board should never had left him take that post.
when scumbag colin murphy did what he did then it would have been a well better idea to go out and replace the assistant manager and manager with people outside the club.
there would have been no old boys club and everyone would have to prove themselves from scratch to the new manager.
i say that youre man Buckley should be brought in next season..
damn it if we dont make the changes soon there will be NO fans at matches!

    Unhappy

good point adam . i have alot of respect for dave but he was a advocate of hoof as well. they only differance was that we was a bit more succesful at it.

i reckon gunther is under pressure alright form within the club.

him making idiotic statements like those on de paper aswell as more chronic performances like shels could see him resign alright.

actually the crowd was so poor on sunday there wasn't even enough boo boys to make a din

agreed Dalo. people screaming for Barry to return really must have some wool in their eyes. The only difference between DB and Gunther is that DB was a better man manager.

i spoke to colin t o'brien about this and he said dav and liam while never the touchy feely type were fantastic motivators and during the title challenge db would have players jumping out of their skins. he got the best out of average players - kelvin flanagan being the classic example

liam is much more reserved and is by all accounts (don't laugh) is far too senstive to handle pressure and hassle that goes with the job. he works better with younger players because there is less room for conflict

i have argued against the murphy out crowd but at the end of the day you can't argue with results. if say by end of the season we don't salvage something decent then murphy should do the honourable thing. he is a decent bloke and has been a great club player and deserves more than boo-boys on his back

I've seen nothing to convince me that any of that is true.

btw can anyone clear up why liam murphy is called gunther?

does he know he is called gunther?

    is he called gunther because

    1) of the tache and if so why?

    2) the missus meant to say grunter but got too excited at time

    3) a (sarcastic) referance to gunther netzer - famed playmaker of the 1970's

    anybody able to explain this....

Hoofing can work but only if you have big strong fast players upfront & we don't have any of them.

Whats most disappointing about this season is the lack of direction on the pitch. I've said it before we have only got plan A & it appears every club has figured than out now.

IMO Liam Murphy is on the slippery sloop & its only a matter of time before he quits or steps aside. I can't dispute Liams comments about him dedicating his life to city but that doesn't necessarily mean he should continue as manager. Similarily a coaching badge diesn't mean you can manage.

    Gunther

Good old Liam (and Iwas a great fan in his playing days) got called Gunther besause of his short hair and Hitler like moustache. There was also the fact that he was like the SS in his toleration of opposition forwards.
