The ref was Alan Kelly from Cork.
I enjoyed it, it was the best match in the Setanta Cup so far.![]()
Was watching the game last night on the TV,good game too.Anyway what was the story with the ref's hair,it was like a black mullet with gold patches, like some sort of leopard print design
,who was the ref??

I only saw the goals on TV3, but it looked like a decent game. Big two games normally attract way more attention than any other game in the IL, there's another one this weekend in the Oval which should have a big bearing on whether the title goes to east or west Belfast.
The ref being from Cork sounds about right![]()
Pretty dire attendance at the Linfield-Glens match. Not more that 1,500 I hear. This fixture traditionally attracts large crowds so it doesn't bode well for the future of the competition. Apathy killed the previous versions of this competition and it will finish this one as well if there is not a big collective effort to promote its merits.
Only saw the second half but was very impressed with Glentoran especially, played some very good football. But I believe the first half was a different game with Linfield comfortably in the lead. Pity about the bad attendance though, wouldnt be worried about future of competition or stuff like that, its only the first year.
I get the impression not much knowledge of Setanta TV in NI? Lets face it if it wasn't included as part of basic cable package on NTL then would be far less publicity about in the ROI too.
Once again IL sides good going forward but shocking defending.
Didn't think it was that bad watching it - there was nobody in the bottom tier facing the camera, which looked bad, but the top tier had some in it, as did the camera-side stand and I think one of the stands behind the goal.Originally Posted by Libero
That said, it was nowhere near the crowds you hear of for these games. I was thinking alright that the Setanta Cup mightn't be taking off up North, but then I suppose the ticket restrictions seem to be making it harder for people to head along to the match on a whim...?
Setanta Cup dead in the water already. Getting sod all coverage on Radio and TV. Is the problem the sponsor? i.e. RTE etc not willing to promote a rival?
I don't know, kinda proves that an All Ireland League would only be the start of the battle for domestic soccer, not the immediate shot in the arm some think....
If you attack me with stupidity, I'll be forced to defend myself with sarcasm.
Dead in the water- are you mad, 150k for the winner and a guaranteed 30k for qualifying the clubs are definitely going to be up for it every year.
Setanta guy isn't that bothered about crowds, more interested in viewing figures. From a Longford view, crowd at Linfield game was poor, but much better than a league crowd.
The game they have Saturday is a far more important game as the League title rests on it so thats what the fans are aiming at, but no club north or south can afford to not take this competition seriously.
Small crowd last night. Maybe 2,500. Lowest crowd at a big two game in memory. Lack of coverage by BBC and UTV (understandably) could be partly to blame with the game not even getting a mention.
Also this saturday's almost 10,000 sell out for what is virtually the league decider will have been a major factor. I suspect that the return at the Oval will attract a lot more fans.
I thought it was a very poor game. The defending by both sides was brutal. I'd fancy Doyler to take either of them apart.
I think Portadown may well be out of compteition by the time they play city at the cross but would be great if they brought down even 200 supporters & get 6000 into the cross. Probably only group game left that can get decent attendance.
I can't see final attracting large crowd no matter who is partaking. game will probably be in Dublin where shels are the only local team.
