    Paul McTiernan

Don't know how true this is but I hear that Paul is back training with Rovers. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

After all this talk of losing 6 points this is a real breath of fresh air.

We've had so many good strikers in the past that have left, nowadays we seem to struggle to find one.

Bring back Falcon Rose I say.

We could do with his goals I'm sure most Rovers supporters won't agree with me but I wouldn't be welcoming him back with open arms. I wonder would he come back if we weren’t joint top of the league

Either way we need his pace up front and the goals he brings with him.

If McTiernan is back or is coming back, he is really going to have to prove himself to the fans all over again, because the way most of the fans see it is he deserted this club and now wants to come back cos we are doing very well in the First Division. If he does come back he better start scoring fairly quickly and hopefully he will be injury free.
Life without Rovers, it makes no sense...it's a heartache...nothing but a fools game. S.R.F.C.

    Thumbs up

OCEAN FM have confirmed McTiernan is back and has signed a new contract. Personally I am glad, as we desperately needed pace up front and with O'Donnell back too, we now look a lot stronger.

All we need now is decent cover for our centre-halves and central midfield and stay free from injuries and we could win this bloody league.

    Great news!!!!
I think Paul will be worth the six points, should we lose them, and he'll certainly be worth twelve goals to us should he remain injury free.
Personally, I'm delighted McT is back

I agree with you completely, great to see him back and committing to the club with a new contract.

I too have been a critic of Paul McTiernan in the recent past, but only because of his lack of commitment to Sligo Rovers. He showed above average talent when he first came on the scene. Last season, when he played, you could see his heart was not in it. Maybe he too along with a lot others was fed up of D.O’R. But when Mickey and later when Sean came on board, that should have been encouragement to give it another try.
Whatever his reasons were to stay away, I don’t know, and whatever the reason for his change of heart is, I don’t know either. But, I will not welcome him with open arms either. I will give him an opportunity to show us supporters, why we should welcome him back. For me he has let down the club. It’s up to him now to earn our respect. He will have to give 100%, nothing more or nothing less.
IMO he has put a lot of pressure on himself by his antic’s. Now he must score goals. But, if he doesn’t deliver that’s when he will experience pressure.
So I will give him a guarded welcome.

You have your opinion Redzer and you're intitled to it ... but!

My opinion on this is that I don't think Paul has let the club down in any way. The lad has been very honest with the club if the truth be known. Paul was/is in contract to Rovers and if he wasn't as honest as he obviousily is then he could have come back at the designated time and collect his weekly cheque and do nothing in return for it. How often have Rovers been caught like this in the past? No I think what Paul has done has to be admired and we should respect him for that. I sincerely hope it works out for both club and player, more so club I must add
Paul McTiernan has had time out to get himself in order, now he's back and I'm sure he's rareing to go. I don't expect Sean will start him straight away but hi won't it just be great to know we have a goal machine sitting on the bench ready to pounce.
Things are looking up lads, their really looking up.

Mc Tiernan must only be 22 0r 23 and i'd say he has been injured for hell of alot a that time. Now can you honestly be accusing him of lacking dedication when he spends half his career on the treatment table after a series of horrendous injuries. Maybe it is better that he takes time out to get his house in order, so as he will be mentally prepared for the new season. When deisler had a run of depression he kept playing until he suffered a mental breakdown. Now unless you want him to keep playing until he gets burned out, its better to give him a break. And i don't think he was lacking motivation cause of don o'riordan, i think it was more to do with his persistent injuries. As fans i think we should be supporting him and not criticising him cause when he did play he generally performed a cut above the rest. After all he didn't abandon us for harps(unlike alot of our former players).
