The Irish rep (Bohs?) will play a team from Belgium so...
and a Spanish team if they make the third round (probably not too likely on current form though).
We're not arrogant, we're just better.
I am a native Belgian living in Dublin. Even as a Shels fan, I'd rather see Bohs proceed than whatever Belgian team will play them. For the sake of Irish soccer. The opponent won't be my beloved KV Ostend anyway, as we're bottom of the table in the Belgian premiership![]()
In second round they'll be playing a team from Belarus or Czech Republic so should have a chance to reach 3rd round.
Form would want to improve dramatically though.
I'm what? I'm ants at a picnic?
Can't see them getting by the first round. The Belgian league is decent (Anderlecht, Club Brugge, Standard Liege, Genk...).
Ahem, did I read this well ??
Belgian league is crap. I am from Belgium, trust me: apart from Bruges and Anderlecht the level is going down every season and it's coming close to a Scotland-like scenario (2 clubs battling for the championship title, all the rest way behind).
Also, look at the results in Europe: Anderlecht lost all its Champions League games, Bruges didn't even make the CL and didn't survive the first stage of the UEFA Cup, Standard neither, and Beveren neither + Beveren lost few times with humiliating scores.
The Belgian football is having the worst level they've had in decades. Bohs definitely stands a chance.
I am born in Ghent by the way and lots of my ex-schoolmates support the club. I still get annoyed when picturing their faces while ridiculising my club (Ostend), so if it will be Ghent, I hope Bohs sinks their ship really well![]()
From RTE
BOHS DRAW BELGIAN SIDE IN INTER TOTO
Bohemians will play a Belgian side in the first round of the Intertoto Cup, at home in the first leg on June 18th or 19th and away one week later.
The winner of the tie progresses to a second round meeting against Czech or Belarussian opponents in early July, and a Spanish side awaits the winner in
the third round later that month.

Lets not get carried away by the Belgian League being cr*p. Bohs are also sh*t this year too. They'll struggle big time in Europe. The Czech team will be very difficult. Remember Liberic making light work of Rover's only a few years ago?
Seems like the eL connection with Charleroi & Inter Toto Cup will contine this season so...
Handy draw, easy to travel.
Bohs may be not good yet, they'll improve probably. It's early on the season.
Belgian league is going down fastly and the standard of the EL ain't much lower anymore.
Gerrit,
Out of curiousity - how did a Belgian in Ireland choose to be a Shels fan ?
Was it out of pity - an urge to boost their feeble crowds ? Or did Ollie Byrne bribe you with 200 Embassy Superkings on O'Connell St one day.....![]()
Fair play to you for supporting Irish football anyway - even if your choice of team is rather suspect....![]()

The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.
My first game in Ireland was Shels-Lille, which I went to see out of curiosity. Before coming to Ireland I liked several teams based on what I read and saw on TV. Then I actually went to the Shelbourne game and met some very nice people there, who invited me to come to the next league game, which was at home vs Pats. I went, and just kept going as I learnt to know some more people and found Tolka a nice place with a friendly atmosphere.
I rolled into it very spontaneously really, it was not a case of "let's pick the winning side". I usually don't support big clubs, and I also don't see Shels as a big club - there's no such thing in Ireland really.
That's what I like about the Eircom League. It's still rather small and cosy. No seperate stands in most games, easy conversations with fans of the opposite sides, nice cosy grounds, hardly any hooliganism, ... That's far more important to me than the level. In Belgium the level may be slightly better (though it's disimproving every year), but Irish football is far more pleasant to go to.
D'ya hear that Bohz?Originally Posted by Gerrit

As I say, we're just young & a bit nieve.
I think it was those kind sentiments that got me through the depressing two in a row title celebrations last year. The horror, how I wish I supported a team like Cork insteadOriginally Posted by A face
