Wexford began their new WNL campaign with a decent performance against DLR Waves in a wet Ferrycarrig tonight but it was a match in which few real chances were created and Wexford had to profit from two errors in the DLR defence and the award of a peno to put the distance on the scoreboard. Wexford began with Sophie Lenehan, Aisling Frawley, Lolly Conlon, Nicola Sinnott, Doireann Fahey, Orla Casey, Lauren Kelly, Kylie Murphy, Aoife Slattery, Jenny Clifford and with Rianna Jarrett up front. First half was untidy for the most part. DLR began with two shots which didn’t test Sophie Lenehan in the Wexford goal and on nine minutes the ever-dangerous Rianna Jarrett flashed a shot a yard wide for Wexford. Little of note until after midway through the half when Orla Casey had a shot from a wide angle which Erica Turner in the DLR goal was able to grab. A Wexford corner then hit the top of the DLR crossbar and went wide. 0-0 at half-time with neither keeper having been tested to any extent.
